Harris speaks out on ending Title 42 at the border.

Kamala Harris Speaks Out on Immigration Responsibility

Vice President Kamala Harris recently attended a fundraising event in Atlanta, Georgia, where she broke her silence on the end of Title 42. This public health order was implemented during the pandemic to prevent asylum-seekers from entering the country.

Addressing Criticism

During an interview with Channel 2 Action News, Harris was asked about criticism from the Georgia GOP regarding her attendance at the event. The GOP claimed it was “deplorable” for her to campaign while the border crisis and inflation were out of control.

“You know, I hear that everything in the last couple days is going rather smoothly, given what the concerns were,” Harris responded. “The bottom line, however, is that this issue of immigration falls squarely within the responsibility of the United States Congress.”

Leading Border Efforts

Harris was appointed to lead the White House’s border efforts in March 2021, a role similar to the one President Joe Biden held during his time as vice president under Barack Obama.

End of Title 42

Title 42 ended on May 11, with 1,500 troops deployed across the U.S.-Mexico border to receive an expected surge in migration. The Biden administration does not plan to deploy any more troops. However, a senior U.S. Customs and Border Protection official reported that the number of illegal immigrants apprehended nationwide remained very high, with 9,000 on Thursday alone.

Conclusion

It’s clear that the issue of immigration is a complex one, and it’s encouraging to see Vice President Harris taking responsibility and addressing concerns. As the situation continues to evolve, it’s important for all parties involved to work together towards a solution.
