Alsobrooks has a 14-point lead over Hogan in Maryland Senate race: Poll

Prince George County Executive Democrat Angela Alsobrooks is holding a 14-point lead over former Gov. Larry Hogan (R-MD) in Maryland’s Senate race, according to a new poll.

The latest poll from Emerson College Polling/DC News Now/the Hill shows Alsobrooks earned 54% of the support to Hogan’s 40%. Six percent indicated they were still undecided in this race.

This poll marks a 5-point uptick in support for Alsobrooks since September, and support for Hogan dropped by 2 points. Other polls have shown Alsobrooks with a similar, wide lead over Hogan.

Alsobrooks has a 27-point advantage with women voters over Hogan.

While Maryland is a heavily Democratic state, some Democrats were worried that Hogan’s popularity from his time as governor of the state could sway voters and the Senate.

Republicans need just one seat to flip to rule the chamber, if all other Republican held seats remain so.

Alsobrooks and Hogan are running to replace outgoing Sen. Ben Cardin (D-MN), who is retiring.

The poll was conducted after Alsobrooks and Hogan debated. During the debate, Alsobrooks tried to paint Hogan as a closet extremist who would empower more polarizing Republican figures, and Hogan accused Alsobrooks of lying about his policy stances, while presenting himself as the only candidate willing to challenge one’s own party.

Vice President Kamala Harris has an even more pronounced lead than Alsobrooks, leading with 63% of Maryland voters compared to 33% who indicated they support former President Donald Trump
