Alvin Bragg challenger predicts ‘best policies’ will win over New York City – Washington Examiner

Maron believes that the race will hinge more on policies rather than party affiliation. With Bragg recently ‌gaining attention for securing a conviction against former President Donald Trump, Maron emphasizes that voters are seeking safer⁤ cities, ‌better schools, and practical policies rather than extreme ideologies. ⁣She‌ notes a substantial increase in crime rates since 2019 and indicates that many crimes may go unreported due ‌to public disillusionment with‌ the judicial response. Community Education Councilwoman Maud Maron predicted her race against Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg will come down to policy over party.

Maron will face off against Bragg next November for the district attorney position. Bragg is fresh from a huge win against President-elect Donald Trump, in which the former president was convicted on 34 felony counts over allegations of paying hush money to multiple women in 2018. While on Fox News’s Fox & Friends on Wednesday, Maron suggested the “best ideas” would win this election.

“I think it’s really clear in New York and around the country that people in both parties want safer cities, they want better schools, as we talked about, and they want sensible policies. They don’t want extreme ideologies on either side,” Maron said. “Look, I think at this point it’s really not about party. It’s who has best policies and who has the best ideas, and who will prioritize keeping New Yorkers safe. Since 2019, we have had a 30% increase in crime in this city.”

According to Maron, as a defense litigator, crime rates could be much higher but largely go unreported.

“That’s notwithstanding the fact that some people are so fed up with the response they get that they don’t even call in crimes. If you see someone stealing in your local pharmacy, you’re not going to call the police because you know Alvin Bragg isn’t going to prosecute that case,” Maron said. “So New Yorkers of both parties, New Yorkers across the board, know that if Alvin Bragg keeps this job, our city will just get less safe. We absolutely need a change.”

This is Maron’s second campaign after losing New York’s 10th Congressional District seat to Rep. Daniel Goldman (D-NY). At the time, she ran as a Democratic candidate who became known for her stance against overly strict COVID-19 policies. Maron has since served on the city’s Community Education Council despite opposition that briefly ousted her from her role.

Even though Bragg succeeded in a conviction against Trump, his sentencing date was indefinitely postponed in light of his winning the Oval Office.
