Alvin Bragg’s Colleagues Boast About Dismantling ‘Criminal Legal System’
A video of a roundtable discussion hosted by Harvard University with several Left-wing prosecutors resurfaced recently after Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg indicted former President Trump on 34 felony charges. The panel, titled “Change from Within: A New Vision for the 21st Century Prosecutor,” featured prominent prosecutors from around the country, and the discussion centered on the different ways that current and aspiring prosecutors could fundamentally alter the justice system from within. Critics argue that activist prosecutors are driving a significant spike in crime across the country.
Sarah George, State’s Attorney for Chittenden County, Vermont, stated that she went to law school because she wanted to dismantle the criminal legal system and saw that as the best method to remedy the “injustices in our justice system.” Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez favored limiting incarceration and cash bail, asking for the minimum period of parole, and rescinding all letters opposing inmates’ parole.
Jonathan Hullihan, deputy general counsel for Citizens Defending Freedom, stated that progressive prosecutors undermine duly enacted laws passed by their respective state legislatures, public safety, the separation of powers, and often the constitutional oath of office required by public officials. Bragg’s decision to upgrade Trump’s charges from a misdemeanor to felony concerning falsifying business records has come under significant public scrutiny, considering that Bragg has downgraded more than half of all felony charges, including armed robbery, to misdemeanors.
Despite the controversy around Alvin Bragg’s tenure, his colleagues on the panel shared their motivations for dismantling the criminal legal system with clarity.
