Alyssa Farah Griffin on Trump’s third term talk: ‘Catnip for the media’
On Monday’s The View, co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin reacted to President Donald Trump‘s recent remarks about possibly seeking a third term in office, comparing them to “catnip” for journalists.
“He’s got this way of dangling things like this out there like catnip so certain corners of the media bite on it,” Griffin, who previously worked in Trump’s first administration, said.
She reminded the audience that “in 48 hours, tariffs are going into effect that will cost all of us a lot of money.”
Griffin also speculated that Vice President JD Vance might find Trump’s comments “a little insulting” because Trump’s talk of a third term doesn’t seem to set up his political partner for a smooth transition of power after the current term ends.
The discussion kicked off when The View moderator Whoopi Goldberg asked, “Um, is he actually planning on this?” Goldberg speculated that Trump’s remarks could be “just another way to take the headlines away from all the other messes” his administration has faced, including the recent controversy about officials using the Signal app for official communications.
Co-host Sunny Hostin added, “I think he’s so enamored of [Russian President Vladimir] Putin and so enamored with power that he wouldn’t mind being king with a crooked crown.”
Fellow host Ana Navarro noted, “No matter how insane, stupid, harebrained, and lawless I think something he says might be, I’ve learned the lesson of taking him seriously.”
She called Trump the “distractor in chief,” suggesting his talk of a third term was likely a distraction from other scandals.
Goldberg wrapped up the conversation with a message for viewers concerned about the future.
“Do not wait for the politicians to get themselves together. It is up to us. Get out and vote. You don’t like what’s happening? Then stop what’s happening. Stop it. Get out there and stop it,” she said, encouraging viewers to take action.
Later, she added, “You’re not helpless.”
