Amazon says downtown Seattle is too dangerous for 1,800 workers
Seattle has basically become a “woke” paradise where crime, squalor, drug addiction, “defunding” the police and fleeing businesses are the norm.
Now Amazon, the titan of Internet shopping and a powerful corporate force for “wokeness” itself, is having to bug out from its downtown Seattle office as the crime and filth simply get too awful to bear. The company announced on March 11 that it will relocate all 1,800 workers from its office at Third Avenue and Pine Street downtown, citing an increase in violent crime in particular. Amazon is calling the move temporary.
Seattle’s police budget has been cut by $36 million since 2019
“Given recent incidents near Third and Pine, we’re providing employees currently at that location with alternative office space elsewhere,” an Amazon spokesman told DailyMail.com in a statement. “We are hopeful that conditions will improve and that we will be able to bring employees back to this location when it is safe to do so.”
Just what might cause “conditions” to “improve” is the question, as Seattle’s decline is a direct result of leftist unwillingness or inability to deal with crime and rampant drug use.
Amazon employs a total of 1.1 million people in the U.S, and 75,000 in Seattle. The 1,800 employees at the Seattle office are being given the “choice of an alternate work location because of the safety concerns.”
Seattle’s City Council approved a 2022 budget that cuts police department spending by more than $7 million, making for the $35.6 million in total cuts over the past three years. Residents clamoring for public safety in a once-beautiful city are ignored.
