‘American Idol’ Contestant Mocked By Katy Perry Quits Mid-Competition: ‘My Heart’s At Home’

The most recent episode of “American Idol” saw 25-year-old Sarah Beth Liebe, a mother of three and wife since the age of 18, leave the competition. Clad in a casual outfit, Liebe candidly shared her struggles with being away from her children and the guilt that comes with it. She admitted to not knowing much about show business and how tough it could be, but she wanted to figure it out. However, after singing “Roxanne” by The Police, she shocked the judges by announcing that it would be her last performance. “This opportunity is really rad, but this actually is going to be my last performance because my heart is at home, so I’m going to get home to my babies. They kind of need me. Thank you,” she said.

Katy Perry, one of the show’s judges, tried to console Liebe and encourage her to stay, telling her not to walk away from her full potential, stating that self-love is as important as motherly love. But Liebe was unwavering in her decision, telling one of the show’s producers backstage: “I know I’m not going to win the show anyway, so I might as well go home.”

During the previous week’s episode, Perry had come under fire for making inappropriate jokes about Liebe’s motherhood and large family. Liebe felt “mom-shamed” and found the comments embarrassing and hurtful.

While the “American Idol” judges and producers will undoubtedly miss Liebe, the mother of three is at peace with her decision to leave. She made her choice to be with her kids, and that’s all that matters.
