US citizens continue to view the government as the primary issue, according to Gallup survey.
Are you concerned about the state of the United States? You’re not alone. According to the latest Gallup survey, Americans continue to identify the government itself as the biggest problem facing the nation.
Government: The Top Concern
Out of the respondents, 18% named “government” as the most important problem, followed by “economy in general” at 14%, “high cost of living or inflation” at 9%, “immigration” at 8%, “guns or gun control” at 7%, and “crime or violence” at 6%. It’s worth noting that “government” encompasses a range of response options, including dissatisfaction with the president, Congress, and party politics and gridlock.
Overall Satisfaction
When it comes to overall satisfaction with the country’s direction, the numbers are bleak. Just 4% of Republicans and 16% of independents describe themselves as satisfied with the way things are going. Even Democrats are feeling the strain, with only 29% expressing satisfaction, down from 36% at the beginning of the year.
Previous Years
It’s not uncommon for Americans to name the government as their top concern, according to previous Gallup polls. In fact,
- In 2022, 20% of respondents named “government” as the top problem.
- In 2021, 23% of respondents named “government” as the top problem.
- In 2020, 26% of respondents named “government” as the top problem.
These numbers show a consistent trend of concern about the government’s role in the country.
If you’re feeling worried about the state of the nation, know that you’re not alone. The survey was conducted between April 3 and April 25 among 1,013 randomly selected adults living in all 50 states and the District of Columbia, with a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 4 percentage points at the 95% confidence level.
