America’s Largest Teachers Union Has Donated $1 Million to Reelect Michigan Gov. Whitmer
National Education Association (NEA), the largest teacher’s union in the US, has donated $1 million to reelect Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer as she faces off against her Republican challenger Tudor Dixon in the midterms.
The NEA, along with America’s other largest teacher’s union the United Federation of Teachers, pushed for remote learning throughout the Covid pandemic and made impossible demands on what needed to happen before schools could fully reopen, including massive building retrofits and HVAC system overhauls.
Senior fellow at the American Federation for Children, Corey A. DeAngelis, posted of another teacher’s union’s support, the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) by noting that their president Randi Weingarten was stumping for Whitmer.
DeAngelis also cited the NEA’s $1 million contribution, as reported by Crain’s Detroit Business.
According to the Michigan Campaign Finance Network, the NEA also contributed $1 million through their advocacy fund between 2011 and 2019 to Whitmer’s political career. The AFT contributed $750,000.
Whitmer was in lockstep with the teacher’s unions’ demands concerning Covid protocols and schools, including sustaining lockdowns and the masking of children.
A member of the NEA’s school board wished death on families that sought exemptions to strict Covid mandates in 2021 and the union has a history of targeting parents who bucked their policies.
The NEA has faced backlash from parental rights groups as they have fully adopted critical race theory as a teaching tool and even pressured social media companies to suppress critics of the controversial philosophy.
Tudor Dixon has been very vocal as a supporter of parents’ rights and has criticized Whitmer for her adoption of the teacher’s unions’ Covid mandates.
Fielding questions from establishment media, Dixon noted that Whitmer’s policies led to considerable learning loss for children in their state.
