‘An Abuse Of Power’: Republicans Slam Mar-A-Lago Raid
Congressional Republicans reacted with outrage on social media after the Federal Bureau of Investigation raided former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence Monday.
“It is corrupt & an abuse of power,” Republican Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas posted on Twitter. “What Nixon tried to do, Biden has now implemented: The Biden Admin has fully weaponized DOJ & FBI to target their political enemies. And with 87K new IRS agents, they’re coming for YOU too.” (RELATED: ‘Think About What They Could Do To You’: Lara Trump Issues Dire Warning To American Public After Mar-a-Lago Raid)
1/x The FBI raiding Donald Trump is unprecedented.

“The @FBI’s raid of Mar-a-Lago is incredibly concerning, especially given the Biden admin’s history of going after parents & other political opponents,” Republican Sen. Rick Scott of Florida tweeted. “This is 3rd World country stuff. We need answers NOW. The FBI must explain what they were doing today & why.”

The raid has prompted some Trump allies to urge he announce a presidential run in 2024, Robert Costa of CBS reported on Twitter.
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy warned Attorney General Merrick Garland to be ready to answer questions Monday night. Other House Republicans criticized the raid.
“The FBI’s raid on President Trump’s Florida home is a dark day in American history,” Republican Rep. Elise Stefanik of New York said in a statement posted to Twitter. “The political weaponization of the FBI and Department of Justice is an actual threat to democracy. There is a reason that Americans no longer trust these agencies.”
A spokesman for Stefanik pointed the Daily Caller News Foundation to her statement.

“This is an absolutely incredible move by the DOJ to pursue, harass and now invade the former President’s home, who had authority to declassify documents,” Republican Rep. Louie Gohmert of Texas tweeted.
This is an absolutely incredible move by the #DOJ to pursue, harass and now invade the former President’s home, who had authority to declassify documents. As we have seen with many #J6 defendants, the process is the punishment. pic.twitter.com/w3RqxLRDf1

Gohmert went on to appeal for calm in the wake of the raid.
“To Republicans and Libertarians of good conscience: Do not let this lawless government provoke violence,” he said. “We have seen this before.”
“Trump is winning the FBI-raid caucus going away—we’ll learn more, but this is his best day in pursuit of the 2024 nomination in a long time,” Rich Lowry of National Review tweeted.
Cruz, Gohmert and the Justice Department did not immediately respond to requests for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation. A spokesman for Stefanik pointed the DCNF to her statement, and Scott’s spokeswoman directed the DCNF to a Tuesday Fox Business appearance where Scott said the raid “should scare every American” and reiterated his call for the Biden administration to explain its actions.
