An Incredibly Sad Day: US Border Patrol Agent Dies While Trying to Nab Illegal Immigrants
A tragic accident in southern Arizona has claimed the life of a brave Border Patrol agent.
The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that Agent Freddy Ortiz, 44, passed away at a hospital in Douglas, Arizona on Tuesday, according to KOLD-TV.
Ortiz was on duty, operating an ATV vehicle and responding to a call about suspected illegal aliens in the border town. Tragically, the ATV veered off the road and collided with a light pole.
Despite efforts to save him, Ortiz was pronounced dead at Copper Queen Hospital.

John Modlin, Chief Patrol Agent for Tucson Sector, expressed his grief over Ortiz’s death.
“The on-duty death of U.S. Border Patrol Agent Freddy Ortiz is a tragedy and a stark reminder of the dangerous nature of our mission,” Modlin wrote.
“I am grateful for the Border Patrol Agents, first responders, and medical staff who tried to save his life.”
“My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and loved ones.”
Cochise County Sheriff Mark Dannels also offered his condolences.
“Today is an incredibly sad day for our brothers and sisters in Border Patrol, and we hold the highest level of respect for the brave work they do every single day.
“God bless all those in his work family and his home family, and know that we are here to support you.”
Arizona Rep. Juan Ciscomani also honored Ortiz as an American patriot who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to his country.
Earlier this week in Cochise County, Border Patrol Agent Freddy Ortiz gave everything while defending and protecting our country.

According to the Officer Down Memorial Page, Ortiz served as a Border Patrol agent for 13 years and also served in the United States Navy.
He is survived by his mother and stepfather.
