An Angry Father Takes Legal Action Against School District’s Policy of Concealing Student ‘Gender Transitions’
A New Jersey father is taking a stand against a school district’s controversial policy that hides the purported “gender transitions” of students from their parents. Frederick Short Jr. has filed a lawsuit in federal court against the Cherry Hill Township School District and the New Jersey Department of Education, challenging their guidelines on transgenderism.
The lawsuit, which also names State Education Commissioner Angelica Allen-McMillan as a defendant, argues that the policy violates parents’ rights and is detrimental to children’s well-being. Short aims to compel the district and public schools across New Jersey to notify parents if their child wishes to transition.
The guidelines state that schools are not obligated to inform parents if their child begins “identifying” as the opposite sex, emphasizing that “parental consent is not required.” The suit argues that this extended secrecy and concealment from parents can have negative psychological effects on children.
Short’s legal action follows similar cases in which parents challenged school districts’ policies regarding transgender-identifying students without parental consent. In one instance, a judge ruled in favor of the parents and overturned the policy.
The Cherry Hill Township School District and the state of New Jersey have two months to respond to Short’s lawsuit. This case highlights the ongoing debate surrounding parental rights and the education system’s handling of gender identity issues.
