Another Arizona Governor Aide Out Of Job
Another staff member of Arizona Governor, Katie Hobbs, has resigned after facing controversy over a tweet that suggested violence against “transphobes.” Her press secretary, Josselyn Berry, stepped down from the post after the tweet went viral. And recently, Murphy Hebert, the governor’s director of communications, has also been replaced due to the similar issues. However, the replacement for the said role is yet to be announced, and the Democrats’ administration is currently undergoing a “reorganisation” of leadership roles.
Alli Bones, Hobbs’ chief of staff, stated that it has not been decided yet whether Hebert would be given a different role in the administration. She also denied that the replacement has anything to do with Berry’s resignation. Bones further added, “This review has been going on for the past couple of weeks and…has been in the works for a while.”
Berry received a lot of backlash regarding one of her tweets. It showed actress Gena Rowlands in the 1980 film “Gloria” brandishing two pistols and the message “Us when we see transphobes.” The tweet came shortly after the shooting at Covenant School in Nashville, Tennessee, which claimed the lives of three children and three faculty members. Law enforcement had killed the shooter, who identified herself as transgender. Hobbs tweeted about the attack, expressing condolences towards the victims and their families. However, the focus shifted on Berry’s tweet, and Matt Walsh, Daily Wire podcast host, called on Hobbs to fire her.
After looking into the situation, Governor Hobbs’ office issued a brief statement stating that the press secretary had resigned but taking a strong stand, the administration said, “The Governor does not condone violence in any form…The post by the Press Secretary is not reflective of the values of the administration.”
