September saw yet another surge in illegal border crossings, setting a new record.
In September, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) recorded a historic high of over 260,000 illegal immigrant crossings at the southern border.
The record-breaking number, the highest ever reported by CBP in a single month, has raised concerns about the border crisis. Last December, the second-highest number of 252,320 migrant encounters was recorded along the southern border.
“The U.S. hit ANOTHER yearly high for illegal border crossings. Biden’s refusal to secure the border has disastrous consequences. His open border policies encourage record numbers of illegal crossings. Texas is the only one stepping up to repel them,” Texas Gov. Greg Abbott wrote on Twitter earlier this week.

Once the September numbers are finalized, the total for the 2023 fiscal year (FY) is expected to surpass last year’s record of 2.3 million illegal immigrant encounters, reaching over 2.4 million.
Under President Joe Biden’s administration, the nation has witnessed a continuous surge in illegal immigration since 2021.
“Joe Biden’s policies at the southern border are utterly defensible. We are seeing the highest rate of illegal immigration in U.S. history under his watch,” Republican Sen. Ted Cruz wrote on Twitter on Sept. 28.
According to CBP data, encounters with illegal immigrants increased by 37 percent from 2021 to 2022, with over 2.3 million encounters in FY 2022 compared to 1.73 million in 2021.
Former President Donald Trump’s administration encountered 458,000 illegal immigrants between Oct. 1, 2019, and Sept. 30, 2020.
Republican ‘Political Stunt’
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre has dismissed claims that President Biden’s policies are responsible for the influx of illegal immigrants, accusing Republicans of turning the issue into a “political stunt.”
“What I’m saying is that the president, without the help—without the help of Republicans, is doing everything he can to deal with the border.” Ms. Jean-Pierre told White House reporters on Monday.
She further criticized Republicans for attempting to limit federal agents at the border through a continuing resolution, accusing them of politicizing the situation and making it worse.
Ms. Jean-Pierre highlighted the administration’s efforts in enforcement, deterrence, and diplomacy to address the border crisis. Additional troops and federal agents have been deployed, and over 250,000 illegal immigrants have been returned since May.
Regarding diplomacy, the Biden administration has been working with Mexico to address unlawful migration.
‘Zero’ Removals
During a recent visit to the Texas-Mexico border, Congressman Tony Gonzales informed Elon Musk that the flow of migrants crossing illegally into the U.S. is continuous, with no repercussions or returns to their home countries.
Mr. Abbott, the Texas governor, believes that the state’s efforts to repel illegal immigrant crossings are being undermined by President Biden’s border policies.
He stated, ”Last year was an all-time record of illegal crossings. This year will set another all-time record of illegal crossings. Americans have had it. Texas is stepping up to do everything we can by putting up these razor wire border barriers to prevent people from coming in only to have President Biden’s staff cut those razor wires and allow people to illegally enter our country.”
What impact does the record-breaking number of over 260,000 illegal immigrant crossings in September have on law enforcement agencies and national security?
Hat the Biden administration’s border policies have contributed to the rise in illegal immigrant crossings at the southern border. She referred to the claims made by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and Sen. Ted Cruz as “political stunts” rather than acknowledging the severity of the situation.
According to CBP data, the number of illegal immigrant encounters has been steadily increasing since President Biden took office. This alarming trend suggests that the current administration’s approach to border security and immigration is not effectively deterring illegal crossings.
The record-breaking number of over 260,000 illegal immigrant crossings in September is a clear indication that the border crisis is intensifying. This surge in illegal immigration poses significant challenges for law enforcement agencies and border patrol officers who are already overwhelmed by the situation. It also raises concerns about national security and public safety, as there is an increased risk of criminals and potential threats entering the country unchecked.
While immigration is a complex issue that requires comprehensive and compassionate solutions, the Biden administration’s open border policies seem to be incentivizing and enabling illegal immigration. The lack of robust border security measures and the undoing of certain immigration regulations implemented during the Trump administration have sent a message of lax enforcement and relaxed consequences for those attempting to enter the country illegally.
Moreover, the Biden administration’s decision to halt the construction of the border wall has created vulnerabilities that allow unauthorized individuals to cross the border more easily. These actions, coupled with the continuation of catch-and-release policies and a lack of sufficient immigration enforcement mechanisms, have fueled the surge in illegal immigrant crossings.
The impact of this crisis extends beyond just the southern border states. It affects the entire nation as resources are strained and the rule of law is compromised. It also raises questions about the administration’s ability to effectively manage immigration and maintain the integrity of the immigration system.
It is crucial for the Biden administration to take immediate and decisive action to address the border crisis. This includes implementing effective border security measures, strengthening immigration enforcement, and working towards comprehensive immigration reform. Ignoring or downplaying the severity of the situation will only exacerbate the crisis and compromise the safety and well-being of both American citizens and those seeking asylum or a better life.
In conclusion, the historic high of over 260,000 illegal immigrant crossings in September recorded by CBP is a clear indication that the border crisis is worsening. The Biden administration’s open border policies and lack of robust enforcement measures have contributed to this surge in illegal immigration. It is imperative for the administration to address the situation urgently and implement effective solutions to secure the border and protect the nation’s interests.
