80th Anniversary of Babi Yar Massacre: Anti-Israel Mob Storms Airport, Searches for Jews After Flight from Tel Aviv Lands
September 29-30, 2023, marked the 80th anniversary of the Babi Yar massacre, the largest mass killing during the Holocaust in the occupied Soviet territories.
During those two days, over 33,771 Jews were brutally murdered by Nazi mobile killing units. Babi Yar, located outside Kiev, Ukraine, is just one of the many Holocaust mass graves in the region, according to the Holocaust Museum & Education Center.
Anti-Semitism doesn’t suddenly appear out of nowhere. It simmers beneath the surface, like a dormant volcano, waiting for an event or a person to bring it back to the forefront.
On Sunday, hundreds of people stormed an airport in Makhachkala, Russia’s Dagestan region, in search of passengers from a flight arriving from Tel Aviv, Israel, as reported by CBS News.

Among the rioters’ signs were messages such as “We are against Jewish refugees” and “There is no place for child-killers in Dagestan,” as reported by CNN.
Authorities stated that the mob successfully breached the airport and reached the tarmac, leading to the temporary closure of the entire airport. In a video, a pilot can be heard warning passengers not to open the doors due to the presence of protesters below the plane.

According to the Dagestani Health Ministry, more than 20 people, including civilians and police officers, were injured in the clashes, with two in critical condition.
The Russian Interior Ministry announced that over 150 participants had been identified through CCTV footage, and 60 arrests had been made so far. An investigation is currently underway.
The incident has garnered strong condemnation from Israeli and American leaders. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expects Russian authorities to protect all Israeli citizens and Jews against the “wild incitement directed against Jews and Israelis.” U.S. National Security Council representative Adrienne Watson stated that the U.S. “unequivocally stands with the entire Jewish community” and emphasized that there is no excuse or justification for anti-Semitism.
Local Dagestani leaders also denounced the riots, urging calm among residents while expressing support for Palestinians in Gaza. The regional governor promised consequences for anyone involved.
As of Monday, officials reported that the airfield had been cleared, but the airport will remain closed to incoming flights until November 6 to address the situation.
In 2022, Moscow’s exiled chief rabbi Pinchas Goldschmidt warned that this day would come.
“When we look back over Russian history, whenever the political system was in danger, we saw the government trying to redirect the anger and discontent of the masses towards the Jewish community,” Goldschmidt said in an interview with the Guardian. “We saw this in tsarist times and at the end of the Stalinist regime.”
“We’re seeing rising anti-Semitism while Russia is going back to a new kind of Soviet Union, and step by step the iron curtain is coming down again. This is why I believe the best option for Russian Jews is to leave,” he added.
The events following October 7 serve as a stark warning that history can repeat itself.
Anti-Semitism is rearing its ugly head worldwide, often disguising itself as anti-Zionism.
However, the truth is that not a single protester in Russia, the U.S., or anywhere else can articulate what they want to happen to the Jews in Israel, leading to one conclusion — they simply want them to cease to exist.
At the World Holocaust Forum in Jerusalem in 2020, King Charles of Britain emphasized the ongoing relevance of the lessons from the Holocaust. He stated, “Seventy-five years after the Liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, hatred and intolerance still lurk in the human heart, still tell new lies, adopt new disguises, and still seek new victims.”
Let us pray that this time, the world does not allow the lies to prevail.
A Note from Our Deputy Managing Editor:
What if you woke up one morning and half of the people you count on had just vanished overnight?
That happened to me recently. I got up, came to work here at The Western Journal, and when I got to my office, literally half of our readers had vanished. They were just gone. We had been nuked by Facebook, and it had happened almost instantly.
But it was even worse. Facebook hit us at the same time 90 percent of advertisers had essentially boycotted us. “Brutal” is a word I’ve used a lot lately.
The fight for the truth is brutal. The fight for America’s soul is brutal. What the government is doing to Jan. 6 detainees is brutal. What surgeons are doing to confused children is brutal.
It’s a fight we must win. But we can’t win without you.
A subscription to The Western Journal will go much farther than you think. It costs less than a cup of Starbucks coffee, and for that small price you get access to ALL of our content — news, commentary, and premium articles — you’ll experience a radically reduced number of ads, and most importantly you will be vitally supporting the fight against leftism.
Can I count on you to subscribe today? We need your help. Benjamin Franklin summed up the situation we’re all facing when he said, “We must all hang together, or, most assuredly, we shall all hang separately.”
We plan to hang in and fight. Please help us. Please subscribe today.

What role does the international community play in condemning acts of anti-Semitism and ensuring the safety and dignity of individuals
Addition, the rioters attempted to break into some of the planes and were seen searching police cars in front of the airport in their quest to find Jewish passengers.
This violent act of anti-Semitism is deeply disturbing and reminiscent of the dark days of the Holocaust. The Babi Yar massacre, which we commemorate the 80th anniversary of, serves as a painful reminder of the atrocities committed against the Jewish people during World War II. It is a solemn occasion to reflect on the lives lost and reaffirm our commitment to never forget the horrors of the past.
The fact that this anti-Israel mob targeted passengers arriving from Tel Aviv is a clear manifestation of their anti-Semitic ideology. It is unacceptable to single out and discriminate against individuals based on their religion, especially in such a hostile and violent manner.
President Putin and Russian authorities must take immediate and decisive action to bring those responsible for this act of hate to justice. The safety and protection of all individuals, regardless of their religion or nationality, must be the highest priority. It is crucial that Russia sends a strong message that such acts of intolerance and violence will not be tolerated.
Furthermore, the international community must condemn this act in the strongest terms possible. We cannot allow anti-Semitism to thrive or be appeased in any way. It is the responsibility of every nation to stand up against hatred and discrimination, and to protect the rights and lives of all individuals.
As we remember the victims of the Babi Yar massacre, we must also remember the lessons of history. The Holocaust stands as a clear reminder of the dangers of prejudice and the potential for mass violence. It is our duty to ensure that such atrocities are never repeated.
In conclusion, the recent anti-Semitic mob that stormed the airport in Russia is a harrowing reminder of the persistence of hatred and the need for constant vigilance. It is imperative that we work together, as a global community, to combat anti-Semitism in all its forms and ensure the safety and dignity of every individual. We must honor the memory of the victims of the Babi Yar massacre by standing up against intolerance and hatred, and by working towards a world where such acts of violence are never repeated.
