Antivirus software creator John McAfee is fighting his extradition to the U.S. from Spain as American authorities look to bring him in on tax evasion charges. While speaking via video call from a Spanish prison on Tuesday, the 75-year-old millionaire argued the charges were politically motivated.

McAfee was arrested in Barcelona in October for allegedly failing to report income made from promoting cryptocurrencies. However, he claimed the U.S. just wants to make an example out of him.

“We understand that because he completely defends the disappearance of the current monetary system in the United States and globally that he has been made a scapegoat of people who think that way,” stated McAfee attorney Javier Villalba. “We believe that in the upcoming years money as we know it will disappear.”

A Spanish judge will make the ruling on whether McAfee will be extradited in the next few days. If convicted, McAfee could spend up to 30 years in prison.
