AOC Among Politicians – Including a Republican – To Send Campaign Cash to Chinese Foreign Agent

Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez A Fox News Digital review has revealed that a few other federal politicians, including two Democrats as well as one Republican, have paid thousands to campaign payments to a Chinese foreign representative.

Representatives Kevin Mullin (D.-Calif.), Grace Meng (D.-N.Y.) and Nicole Malliotakis (R.-N.Y.) joined Ocasio Cortez to push campaign cash for Sing Tao U.S.A., a subsidiary from the Hong Kong-based Sing Tao News Corporation Ltd. for advertising expenses during this midterm election cycle.

These campaigns had, in other words sent their money to a Chinese-owned entity, which the Department of Justice subsequently deemed unacceptable. Forced to register as a Chinese foreign representative in August 2021, as tensions rose between Washington DC and Beijing.

The DOJ ruled that Sing Tao U.S. was foreign political activity. All campaigns disbursed their money to the company. 

Ocasio-Cortez’s campaign spent almost $1,500 on ads with Sing Tao Newspapers during midterm elections after it registered as foreign agent. However, Reps. Mullin and Meng paid between $1,000-$7,000 to various Sing Tao entities in campaign advertising expenses as part of their campaigns, Federal Election Commission filings show.

Sing Tao has American operations that include Chinese language publications New YorkLos Angeles, San Francisco, San Francisco. The station also operates a radio station at Burlingame in California. 

Rep. Grace Meng has also paid more than $1,000 to Sing Tao for advertising expenses.

Sing Tao U.S. maintains it’s independent from Chinese Communist Party influence. China’s government however, has one of the highest. “world’s most restrictive media environments, relying on censorship to control information in the news, online, and on social media,” The Council on Foreign Relations wrote.

The Chinese government As part of its tightly-knit media control operation, it has blocked media access for its citizens and monitored and suppressed publications. It has also thrown dissident journalists into prison.
