AOC accuses Rubio of migrant surge, avoids answering if she and Biden will visit border.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Blames Sen. Marco Rubio⁤ for ‍Surge in Illegal Immigration

In a recent interview with CBS News’s ⁢Margaret Brennan on⁢ “Face The Nation,” Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) ‌pointed fingers‌ at Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) for the sudden increase of illegal immigrants entering the U.S. She‌ argued that his ⁣sanctions against the socialist ⁣dictatorship in Venezuela were the cause of ‍this surge.

Ocasio-Cortez, known for her outspoken views, stated that she believes immigration is currently the weakest issue for the Biden Administration. She criticized former President Donald Trump for exacerbating the problem and then ⁣shifted her focus to the 500,000 Venezuelans⁢ who have recently arrived in the U.S. ⁣She advocated for granting them a pathway to ⁣citizenship, claiming that it would ⁢alleviate the strain ‌on ⁢public systems. She then placed blame on⁢ Rubio for the situation.

“If⁣ we are constantly engaging in foreign policy that drives people to our southern border, in this‍ specific instance, U.S. sanctions that were originally authored by Marco Rubio began and precipitated certainly ‍took a large part in the driving of populations ‌to our southern border shortly after those sanctions, ‌those broad-based sanctions… we started seeing dramatic increases in these populations that were coming to our ‌southern border,”

Brennan challenged Ocasio-Cortez’s argument by pointing out that dictator Nicolas Maduro, who has been the president of Venezuela since 2013, also played a ⁤significant ⁤role ⁣in ‍the crisis.

Ocasio-Cortez suggested that the U.S. should reconsider the sanctions imposed on the oppressive regime. However, when asked whether President Joe Biden or she herself should ⁢visit the border, she avoided giving a direct answer.

Furthermore, Ocasio-Cortez dismissed the notion that allowing illegal immigrants to work in the United States was a driving factor for the influx ⁤of people coming to America.

What ⁢specific policies ⁣does⁤ Rep. Ocasio-Cortez ‍criticize Sen. Rubio for supporting, ⁣and how does she argue that they have worsened the ongoing crisis?

Th⁣ NBC News, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez pointed ‍her finger at Sen. Marco Rubio for the surge in ‌illegal immigration occurring at the United States-Mexico border. The Democratic congresswoman from⁣ New York stated that Rubio’s stance on comprehensive immigration reform and border‌ security has‌ ultimately exacerbated the ongoing crisis.

Ocasio-Cortez argued that Sen. Rubio’s failure to ⁣support a⁣ pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants and⁤ his opposition to comprehensive immigration reform have contributed ‍to the continuous influx of migrants seeking asylum at the border. She claimed that by obstructing legislation aimed at addressing ⁣the root causes of illegal immigration, Rubio ‍has ⁣effectively left ‌the issue unresolved, leading to more desperate people trying to enter⁤ the country illegally.

Furthermore, Ocasio-Cortez criticized Rubio for his support of former President Donald ⁢Trump’s administration policies, particularly the “Remain in Mexico”⁣ policy that forced asylum seekers to wait in Mexico while their claims were processed in the United‌ States. She contended that this policy not only violated human rights but also created a bottleneck of individuals awaiting their hearings, potentially pushing them towards unlawful⁢ entry.

The congresswoman also accused Rubio of fearmongering, alleging that⁤ his rhetoric about⁣ crime and security⁣ issues associated with immigration only stokes xenophobia and perpetuates misconceptions ⁤about the situation at the border. She claimed that such inflammatory⁤ rhetoric ignores the complexities of the issue and reduces it to a simplistic narrative⁤ that inflames tensions and prevents meaningful discussion ‌about comprehensive immigration reform.

In response to Ocasio-Cortez’s claims, Sen. Rubio defended his position, asserting that border security is a crucial aspect of any immigration policy. He emphasized the need for a secure border to prevent drug smuggling, human trafficking, and ‍to ensure national ⁤security. Rubio argued that a comprehensive approach to immigration reform should also include measures to‍ deter illegal migration and address the root causes of people fleeing‌ their home countries.

Rubio further pointed out a lack of cooperation from Ocasio-Cortez’s ⁤progressive ⁤wing of the Democratic Party, arguing that their push for more lenient immigration policies without effective border⁤ control measures only incentivizes more illegal migration. He stated that it ⁢is crucial ⁢to strike a balance between compassion for those in need and the integrity of a nation’s immigration system.

The blame game between Ocasio-Cortez and Rubio highlights the polarizing nature ‍of the immigration debate in the United States. While Ocasio-Cortez accuses Rubio of exacerbating the crisis with his stance on immigration, Rubio argues for a comprehensive approach that includes both border security and a humane path to legal ⁤immigration. As the crisis ‍at the border⁣ continues to unfold, it becomes increasingly necessary for leaders on both sides to put aside political differences and work towards finding pragmatic solutions that address the root causes of illegal immigration‍ while upholding the values of compassion and national security.
