“Our car was purchased during the pandemic, before a vaccine had come out, so travel between New York and Washington, the safest way that we determined was an EV, but that was prior to some of the new models coming out on the market that had the range available,”
Ocasio-Cortez explained during her appearance on Face the Nation. However, she did not shy away from acknowledging that she is now considering trading in her Tesla for a union-made alternative.

When Ocasio-Cortez made her initial purchase in 2020, the Chevrolet Bolt was the only domestic and union-made electric vehicle available. But times have changed, and now the Chevrolet Bolt EUV and Ford’s F-150 Lightning pickup have joined the market.
Earlier this year, Ocasio-Cortez expressed her intention to support union-made electric vehicles, making her current choice to stick with Tesla a subject of scrutiny.
However, the Congresswoman assured that her Tesla will “hopefully” be traded in soon, indicating a potential change in her vehicle of choice.
