AOC Takes To TikTok To Defend Chinese-Owned App From Possible Nationwide Ban
Representative Alexandria Ocasio Cortez( D-NY ) participated in the discussion surrounding the nationwide ban on TikTok, a social media platform owned by Chinese people.
On Saturday night, the Democratic Communist and left-wing” Squad” took to TikTok to oppose bipartisan support for a nationwide ban on the game. AOC downplayed worries about data privacy and security, claiming that TikTok was just one game that gathered enormous amounts of data. She called for a broader content privacy law rather than outlawing just one application.
” Do I think TikTok ought to be prohibited? No, AOC began. Despite opening the account more than a year later, the movie is her first entry to the app.
She said,” First of all, I think it’s important to talk about how unusual this move may make.” This social media app has more than 150 million users, and the United States has never before forbade it from existing or operating within its edges.
Ocasio-Cortez first discussed criticisms of the app’s use as a tool for And monitoring and consumer information theft. She downplayed those worries, claiming that banning TikTok” doesn’t actually address the core of the problem, which is that major social media companies are permitted to gather of of deeply personal information about you without really any substantial rules either.”
She claimed that the United States is one of the exclusive developed countries in the world without any significant data protection or privacy laws. The solution is to” really protect Americans from this kind of severe information harvesting that businesses can do without your substantial ability to say no ,” she added, rather than openly banning TikTok, which has 150 million users.
Ocasio-Cortez already voiced his disapproval of the app’s national security issues. Congress has not received a classified lecture when it is debating policy that has implications for national protection. Why did we propose a moratorium on something so important without even knowing about it? She enquired. ” It just doesn’t feel right to me ,” she said. She added that Congress needs to argue in favor of outlawing TikTok to the general public.
But in all honesty, I believe that a lot of this is putting the cart before the animal ,” she said. Protecting your ability to exist without social media companies collecting and altering all of your personal information without your permission may be our top priority.
The camera has received more than 2.3 million sights as of the time this article was published.
The Democratic Party has previously voiced opposition to a moratorium on TikTok, including AOC. Rep. Jamaal Bowman, one of her” Squad” colleagues from New York, posted a video on the app on Thursday pleading for the repeal of the ban. Bowman stated in the game,” TikTok as a system has created for 150 million Americans and counting the nation and the house for free speech.” It is also a location where 5 million small businesses are operating and selling their goods and products.
This week, Reps. Mark Pocan and Robert Garcia( D-WI ) also defended TikTok.
