Archaeologists find ancient sword: ‘It gleams even after 3,000 years.’

Ancient Octagonal Sword Unearthed in Bavaria

A team of archaeologists has made an extraordinary discovery in southern Germany. They have unearthed a rare and remarkably well-preserved octagonal sword, estimated to be over 3,000 years old.

The excavation took place at a burial site in Bavaria, where the sword was found. Experts believe it was a burial gift, carefully placed alongside three individuals – a man, a woman, and an adolescent.

“It almost still shines,” the Bavarian State Office for the Preservation of Monuments and Sites stated. “It is representative of the bronze swords, the octagonal handle of which is completely made of bronze.”

This incredible artifact is believed to date back to the 14th century B.C., during the Middle Bronze Age. Its exceptional state of preservation has left experts astounded.

“Still, the sword and the burial must be examined, so that our archaeologists can classify this find more precisely. But already it can be said, ‘The state of preservation is extraordinary! A find like this is very rare,'” expressed Mathias Pfeil, general conservator of the Bavarian State Office for the Preservation of Monuments and Sites.

While the sword was initially thought to be a ceremonial item, further analysis suggests that it was indeed a functional weapon.

“The center of gravity in the front part of the blade indicates that it was balanced mainly for slashing,” explained the Bavarian State Office for the Preservation of Historic Monuments and Sites.

During the excavation, other valuable burial gifts, including rich bronze offerings, were also discovered. However, it remains uncertain where the sword will be housed or if it will be accessible for public viewing.
