Hawley shocked as Biden official disregards US energy workers, claiming ‘many jobs available.’
Lawmaker and Cabinet Official Clash Over Climate Change Agenda and Blue Collar Jobs
A heated exchange between Senator Josh Hawley and Interior Secretary Deb Haaland took place on Tuesday, as Hawley expressed concern over the Biden Administration’s prioritization of the climate change agenda over the livelihoods of blue collar workers. Haaland’s response that “there’s a lot of jobs” only added fuel to the fire.
Environmental Damage and Dependence on China
Hawley pointed out that manufacturing lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles, a key component of the climate change agenda, causes environmental damage. He also expressed concern over the US’s dependence on China for the production of refined lithium, cobalt, and graphite, which are essential for electric car components. Hawley accused the Biden Administration of trading off American energy security in favor of a radical climate change agenda.
Blocking Mining Permits and Sacrificing American Jobs
Hawley also questioned why the administration was blocking permits for mines in the US that would allow the country to develop nickel, copper, and cobalt, instead of making the US dependent on China. Earlier this year, the Biden Administration banned mining across 225,504 acres near Duluth, Minnesota. Hawley argued that jobs for blue collar workers in the US are valuable resources and should not be sacrificed in favor of a climate change agenda.
Dismissing Blue Collar Workers
Hawley accused the Biden Administration of dismissing blue-collar workers while pursuing a dubious environmental policy. He pointed out that over three million jobs have gone to China in the last 20 years, many of which came from Midwestern towns like the ones he represents. Hawley called Haaland’s statement that “we don’t have enough people” to work at the department “unbelievable.”
In summary, the clash between Hawley and Haaland highlights the tension between the climate change agenda and the livelihoods of blue collar workers, as well as the US’s dependence on China for essential components of electric vehicles.
