Arizona border quiet, ‘like the faucet got turned off’ – Washington Examiner
The article discusses the important decline in illegal migrant crossings at Arizona’s border with Mexico, noting a reduction to approximately 5% of previous rates observed during President Joe Biden’s administration. Arizona senate President Warren Petersen attributes this sharp decrease to policies implemented by President Donald Trump, stating that it feels as though “the faucet got turned off.” Petersen highlights the effectiveness of Trump’s border strategies and claims that public support for these measures remains high, with polls indicating around 70% approval among constituents. He suggests that many moderate Democrats are also aligning with Trump’s approach due to dissatisfaction with liberal policies, marking a shift in political sentiment in the state.

Illegal migrant crossings over Arizona’s 373-mile border with Mexico have dried up in the 18 days President Donald Trump has been in office.
State officials told Secrets that the crossings have been reduced to about 5% of what they were under former President Joe Biden. During his one term, about 2 million migrants crossed Arizona’s border.
“It’s like the faucet got turned off,” Arizona Senate President Warren Petersen told Secrets.

Petersen, a Republican running for state attorney general, is a border hawk who recently presented legislation to bolster Arizona’s cooperation with Trump and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
He cited Trump’s border plan for the change. “It just shows you what a true leader can accomplish. We’re talking about nine days,” he said since the bulk of Trump’s plan went into effect. “I mean, it is just like this precipitous drop. And the only thing that changed was the president.”

Petersen, who attended the president’s signing of an executive order banning males from participating in female sports this week, said his constituents are pleased with Trump’s border changes.
“Everyone I know loves it,” he said.
Petersen said that while liberals may be angry at Trump’s initial actions on the border and gender, most people outside of Washington are happy. He said the issues in his state poll had about 70% approval to 30% disapproval.
Recent polls are showing that moderate Democrats have moved to Trump as he has tackled divisive issues with common sense. Petersen suggested that “soft Democrats” have had it with liberal policies and are joining the Trump coalition.

“It just reached this tipping point, and it played a huge role in this election. It’s not like people have moved far right when you look at the coalition Trump put together with Tulsi Gabbard, RFK Jr. — like, these guys are like rock solid conservatives? These are actually soft Democrats,” he said.
Petersen added, “If it happened to those two, you know that it happened to hundreds of thousands across the country that fall under that spectrum.”
