Arizona Dem Rep Steals Bibles From Members’ Lounge. She’s An Ordained Minister.
Arizona Democrat State Representative Caught Stealing Bibles
In a shocking incident, Democrat state representative Stephanie Stahl Hamilton was caught on camera stealing Bibles from the state house lounge. What’s even more surprising is that she is an ordained Presbyterian minister who attended Princeton Theological Seminary. The Bibles were found buried in the lounge furniture and in the community refrigerator.
A Playful Prank or a Blurred Line?
Stahl Hamilton defended her actions by calling it a “playful commentary on the separation of church and state.” She claimed that she was frustrated with the Christian Bible being used as a weapon in the state house. However, her actions were deemed nonsensical and offensive by Republican Speaker Pro Tempore Travis Grantham.
- Stahl Hamilton’s statement: “I am a Presbyterian minister so I obviously don’t have a problem with the Bible.”
- Grantham’s response: “I don’t quite understand the issue of having a Bible available for members to read.”
Stahl Hamilton later apologized for her actions, stating that she holds Scripture dear to her heart and that her intent was never to be destructive or offensive. However, Grantham still found her actions uncomfortable and offensive to those who cherish the Bible.
What do you think about this incident? Was it a harmless prank or a blurred line between church and state?
