Arizona man arrested after threatening to kill Trump: Police

Authorities arrested a 66-year-old Arizona man who they say threatened to kill former President Donald Trump on Thursday.

The sheriff’s office announced the suspect was taken into custody several hours after a manhunt was launched, according to the Washington Post.

The suspect, Ronald Lee Syrvud, had outstanding warrants from the state of Wisconsin for DUI, failure to appear for DUI, and from Graham County, Arizona, for hit-and-run and felony failure to register as a sex offender.

The sheriff’s office posted on Facebook that Syrvud was being sought “as an investigative lead for threats to kill a presidential candidate.” Fox News Digital later confirmed that the “presidential candidate” was Trump

Trump’s security has been treated as even more of a critical issue since the July 13 assassination attempt against his life, with a bullet grazing his ear. One man died, and two others were wounded at the rally.

The former president recently appeared at a rally in North Carolina behind bulletproof glass, a common theme that will be seen in outdoor rallies going forward. Trump had held largely indoor rallies before his recent North Carolina visit.

Arizona is a key swing state for Trump and has swung a bit toward Vice President Kamala Harris since her inclusion into the race. According to Decision Desk HQ’s polling average, they’re essentially tied in the state, with Trump leading 47.3% to Harris’s 47.2%.

The Washington Examiner reached out to the Trump campaign but did not receive a response.
