As Trump talks economy in Chicago, Harris declines invite to defend record – Washington Examiner

During a recent event at the Economic Club of‌ Chicago, former President Donald Trump participated in an⁣ interview with Bloomberg News, focusing on economic ‍issues, which‌ are key concerns for voters. In contrast, Vice President Kamala Harris declined the invitation to‌ engage in a similar discussion,⁤ even though she has previously reversed her media strategy to increase her visibility during her campaign. Instead of ‌the Bloomberg interview, Harris chose to discuss her economic policies in friendly and personal interviews, including a segment on CBS News’ 60 Minutes. While she is set to appear on Fox News for the first time on Wednesday, she has generally avoided the more direct⁢ interview format ‌that Trump embraced. The event highlighted ⁣the contrasting approaches of ⁤the two political figures as they address⁣ economic topics in the lead-up to the elections.

As Trump talks economy in Chicago, Harris declines invite to defend record

Former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris were invited to speak at the Economic Club of Chicago, as the economy is a top concern for voters. Trump sat down with Bloomberg News for the interview, while Vice President Kamala Harris decided not to.

During the first month of her brief campaign, which began in July, Harris did not offer any interviews. Then, she reversed her media strategy to mirror that of Trump’s and appeared on a number of programs across radio, television, and social media to discuss her campaign.

However, she shied away from the chance to sit down with Bloomberg Editor-in-Chief John Micklethwait while Trump appeared for the interview.

“For the record, and for those watching on television, the Economic Club of Chicago and Bloomberg both invited Vice President Harris to a similar interview about her economic plans,” Micklethwait said at the start of the event.

Harris discussed her economic policies during her 60 Minutes interview with CBS News’s Bill Whitaker. However, the vice president’s other interviews have largely leaned friendly and personal.

Harris is scheduled to be interviewed by Fox News’s Bret Baier on Wednesday. It will be the first time she has appeared on the network in this format. Trump is scheduled to participate in a town hall Wednesday with Fox News host Harris Faulkner.

Trump faced backlash for participating in the Economic Club of Chicago event, which clashed with a CNBC interview with Joe Kernen.

Similarly, CBS News’s Scott Pelley said he had plans to interview Trump, but the former president’s campaign denied that any appointment was ever settled on. At the time, the campaign also expressed concern about “jump cuts” that the network could make to Trump’s answers, a problem that also occurred during the program’s interview with Harris.
