Associated Press Orders Journos to Take Pro-Abortion Slant in Reporting
If you need more proof that the media deserves to be called “the”, here it is. “activist media,” The Associated Press released new guidance to journalists in November 2022 regarding how to frame abortion issues. The AP’s style guide was updated to direct journalists to put the term “crisis pregnancy center” In quotation marks and to refer them as “anti-abortion” centers.
The Daily Signal reported:
The AP added this entry between Nov. 20 and Nov. 27, 2022, according to The Daily Signal’s search of the Wayback Machine. The center’s description is in the guide. “set up to divert or discourage women from having abortions” Warnings to writers “potentially misleading terms” Like “pregnancy resource centers or pregnancy counseling centers.”
“If using the term anti-abortion center, explain later that these often are known as ‘crisis pregnancy centers’ (with quotation marks) and that their aim is to dissuade people from getting an abortion,” The style guide entry states.
Thomas Glessner, President of the National Institute of Family and Life Advocates told the news outlet that these guidelines are important for journalists. “disgraceful” It was argued that “if they actually cared about integrity, they would know that pregnancy centers seek to help women who are facing unplanned pregnancies with material and emotional support.”
The Associated Press’ stylebook is the most commonly used among journalists and news outlets. The stylebook’s guidelines are generally followed, with some exceptions.
The new guidance was welcomed by the pro-abortion crowd. Nebraska Planned parenthood advocates celebrated the style change.
“Please see a recent update in AP style, which avoids the use of ‘fetal heartbeat’ bill since this legislation addresses neither a fetus (it’s still an embryo) nor a heartbeat (it hasn’t yet developed a heart),” In a blog post, the organization explained that they were pleased to announce their decision.
The Daily Signal added that the AP also bans the use of the term. “pro-life” It also advises writers to use “anti-abortion or abortion-rights” instead.
The report continues:
The “Abortion Topical Guide” Instructions journalists to refer fetal heartbeats to as “cardiac activity,” Avoid crediting the “abortion pill reversal process,” Use the term “never” “late-term” Abortion or unborn babies “pain-capable” It will take 24 weeks for the baby to feel pain, even though evidence suggests that they can feel it at 15 weeks.
This is just one attack that pro-abortion politicians and organizations have launched. Launched against crisis pregnancy centres. Senator Elizabeth Warren (D.MA), has been tirelessly trying to reduce the influence these organizations have in decreasing abortions for years. These groups have been the target of numerous vandalism acts and firebombings.
However, the fact that the AP would allow journalists to engage in blatant pro -abortion advocacy under its guidance is a clear indication that the group does not intend to be objective. They are part of why I call these outlets the “activist media.” The AP’s guidance is designed more to direct journalists influence rather than inform.
Needless to say, RedState and other sane media outlets won’t be adopting this particular part of the AP’s guidance. However, activist media outlets that lean left will gladly adopt the new approach, even though they aren’t practicing journalism. They act as propagandists, spreading propaganda to promote a far-leftist agenda. This means that they must use language in a way to manipulate rather than educate.
