At 63, Fred Couples Becomes Oldest Player to Make Cut at Masters

Fred Couples won his lone major final, a Masters conquest, 31 years ago.

That earned him a career invitation to Augusta National‘s’s upcoming contests, and like most, he seizes the chance.

This summer, he went a step further with it. He became the oldest player to make the Masters cut at the age of 63 year, six months, and five years.

Couples made the lower by two stroke in his second round, which he finished early on Saturday morning to make + 1 for the competition.

The 63-year-old scored a 1 under 71 in the first round, then 74 the next.

Couples is making his 38th Masters look, breaking another report. With 23, he, Gary Player, and next Tiger Woods all hold the record for the most consecutive breaks made at Augusta.

For the fourth round, Couples is paired with Mackenzie Hughes, Seamus Power, and Brooks Koepka, who was 13 photos behind.

Couples scored a – 13 to win the Masters in 1992. Craig Parry, who later shot a 78 on Sunday to begin T – 13, was one shot behind him when he entered that last cycle. By two breaths, lovers ultimately prevailed.
