Parade in Brooklyn Celebrates 420 Million People Quitting the Chinese Communist Party
When Cheng Xiongying, a recent immigrant to the United States, heard about a parade in Brooklyn honoring the 420 million individuals who have renounced the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and its affiliated organizations, he eagerly joined in.
“I just quit the Party today, too,” he excitedly shared with a reporter from The Epoch Times.
Mr. Cheng was not alone in his decision—other spectators at the parade on October 15 also revealed that they had severed ties with the CCP.
Mr. Cheng had initially joined the Communist Youth League while studying in China, but his perspective changed when students began advocating for liberal democracy in the late 1980s. The movement was tragically suppressed during the 1989 Tiananmen Square massacre, where CCP forces brutally killed protesting students.
Prior to the parade, Mr. Cheng encountered Falun Gong practitioners who assisted him in officially withdrawing from the CCP.
“From the Cultural Revolution to the present day, the CCP has persecuted countless individuals,” Mr. Cheng expressed. “Upon arriving in the United States, I discovered a place filled with sunshine and freedom. Such conditions are unimaginable in China.”
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual practice that emerged in China in 1992. By the end of the decade, an estimated 70 to 100 million people in China were practicing Falun Gong. It promotes the principles of truth, compassion, and forbearance, along with incorporating five meditative exercises.
However, in 1999, then-CCP leader Jiang Zemin launched a widespread campaign to “eradicate” the practice. Followers of Falun Gong were abducted, detained in concentration camps, subjected to torture, and even killed for their organs. This persecution has been extensively documented by international human rights organizations and media outlets like The Epoch Times.
The parade in Brooklyn, led by Falun Gong practitioners from the New York area, featured flags, banners, a marching band, and other festivities. Participants called for an end to the 24-year-long persecution of Falun Gong by the CCP, while also raising awareness about the ”quitting the party” movement, known as the Tuidang movement (EndCCP.com) in Chinese. Yi Rong, president of the Global Service Center for Quitting the CCP, emphasized the significance of 420 million withdrawals from the Party.
“The collapse of the CCP is imminent,” she declared. “We hope this message will inspire more Chinese people to join the wave of quitting the Party, ultimately consigning the CCP to the dustbin of history.”
Jin Defu, another recent immigrant to the United States, admitted that he had been indoctrinated by the CCP until just a year ago.
In 2022, he utilized Freegate, a software developed by Falun Gong practitioners to bypass the CCP’s internet censorship, and discovered The Epoch Times.
Inspired, he proceeded to read “Zhuan Falun,” the primary text of Falun Gong. Since the book is banned by the CCP, he had to read it secretly. However, it profoundly impacted him.
“My mental state has greatly improved, and my physical health has also improved,” Mr. Jin shared. “I used to have a short temper and frequently engaged in fights. After embracing Falun Gong, my mindset changed, and I became more composed.
“The Communist Party has not accomplished a single positive thing since seizing power.”
This realization motivated him to find a way to withdraw from the CCP and leave China. He expressed his hope that all Chinese people would read the ”Nine Commentaries” and sever ties with the Party.
