Tragedy Strikes: Over 100 Lives Lost in Memorial Event for Iranian General
The attack that took place on Wednesday, had thousands of Iranians gathered at Soleimani’s memorial in Kerman, to mark the fourth anniversary of his death.
According to Iranian authorities, a total of two bombs went off at the gravesite that had photos displayed of the former head of the Revolutionary Guard’s elite Quds Force.
According to the Iranian national media, the first bomb went off only 700 meters (2,300 feet) from the memorial site, while the other one was a kilometer away (2,000 feet).
Nobody immediately claimed responsibility for the blasts.
The former general, Soleimani, was buried in the cemetery after he was killed by a U.S. drone strike in Baghdad, in January 2020.
Graphic video showed crowds of people running from the blasts as emergency crews arrived, while bodies were lying on the ground.
Additionally, the footage indicated that the second blast occurred almost 15 minutes after the first one, which is a strategy used by terrorist groups to target emergency personnel and cause an increase in deaths.
According to multiple reports, the two bombs were placed in suitcases and detonated remotely.
“The blasts were caused by terrorist attacks,” one local official said. “Several gas canisters exploded on the road leading to the cemetery.”
Furthermore, the local official also said another 141 people were also injured.
In response to the attack, Iran’s head of judiciary, Gholam Hossein Mohseni-Ejei said those responsible for the attack will be found and punished.
“The agents and perpetrators of this grievous crime will undoubtedly be punished,” Mohseni-Ejei said in a statement, according to Al-Jazeera.
“Responsible intelligence, security and law enforcement agencies are obligated to promptly pursue all the evidence and perpetrators and hand them over to the judiciary.”
Soleimani was a national hero among Iran, and was considered a national threat to the United States.

How has the Iranian government responded to the attack and what actions are they taking to bring the perpetrators to justice?
Known for his role in expanding Iranian influence in the region and supporting militant groups. His death in the U.S. airstrike in 2020 sparked widespread mourning and anger in Iran, leading to increased tensions between Iran and the United States.
The memorial event in Kerman was meant to commemorate Soleimani’s life and legacy, but it tragically turned into a scene of destruction and loss. According to Iranian authorities, the two bomb blasts killed at least 103 people and injured 188 others. The bombs, which were placed in suitcases, were detonated remotely, causing chaos and panic among the crowd.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, but the Iranian government has vowed to find and punish those responsible. Iran’s head of judiciary, Gholam Hossein Mohseni-Ejei, stated that the perpetrators of this crime will undoubtedly face justice.
The attack not only targeted the memorial event but also aimed to maximize casualties by delaying the second blast in order to target emergency personnel and increase the death toll. This is a tactic often used by terrorist groups to cause maximum damage and chaos.
The images and videos from the scene are horrifying, showing people running for their lives and bodies lying on the ground. The impact of this attack on the families of the victims and the Iranian society as a whole cannot be underestimated. It is a heartbreaking reminder of the ongoing threats and challenges faced by countries affected by terrorism.
Iran has a long history of dealing with terrorist attacks, with thousands of Iranian civilians losing their lives over the past four decades. The attack in Kerman is yet another tragic chapter in this ongoing struggle. It highlights the need for continued global cooperation and support in the fight against terrorism.
The international community must stand united in condemning such acts of violence and supporting Iran in its efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice. Attacks like these only serve to further destabilize the region and threaten the lives and security of innocent people.
As the investigation into the attack continues, it is crucial for Iran to strengthen its security measures and enhance cooperation with other countries in order to prevent future incidents. It is also important to address the root causes of terrorism and work towards promoting peace and stability in the region.
The loss of over 100 lives in the memorial event for Soleimani is a devastating tragedy. Our hearts go out to the families and loved ones of the victims, and we hope for a swift and thorough investigation that brings justice to those responsible. May the souls of the departed rest in peace, and may Iran find strength and resilience in the face of this senseless act of violence.
