At Least 7 Dead After Tornado Rips Through Tennessee County Amid Deadly Storms In South, Midwest
A tornado that swept through McNairy County, Tennessee, on Friday night, resulted in the death of at least 7 people and multiple injuries caused by the powerful storms which attacked areas across the South and Midwest. These reports were confirmed by the Emergency Management Agency director for McNairy County, according to Action News 5. McNairy is located nearly 85 miles east of Memphis.
The Adamsville police department released a statement offering condolences to all those affected by the tornado, describing the damage done as catastrophic.
Independent reporter Nick Sortor tweeted that he was left with a bloody head injury and a totaled vehicle, after one of the Tennessee twisters blew his Jeep off the road. He also described the moment when he felt like he was going to die.
ABC News reported that 11 people died from Friday night’s storm across five states. Among them, five were killed and dozens injured in Arkansas, where a tornado hit the state capital Little Rock, causing extensive damage, and another blew through the town of Wynne, virtually splitting it into two sections. Illinois, Alabama, and Mississippi each reported one death, while Indiana saw three deaths.
Last week, the storm struck over Arkansas and Mississippi, leaving more than two dozen fatalities. One of the tornadoes was a mile wide and caused severe damage in Rolling Fork, Anguilla, and Silver Creek, after traveling over 100 miles.
