Lyles Wins 150m at Atlanta City Games
American sprinter Noah Lyles continues to dominate his rivalry with Erriyon Knighton, winning the 150 metres at the Atlanta City Games. Lyles, who won bronze at the Tokyo Olympics, finished in 14.56 seconds, becoming the third-fastest athlete of all time over the distance, behind Usain Bolt and Tyson Gay. Knighton, who won bronze at last year’s World Championships, finished second in 14.85 seconds.
The 150m is not a World Athletics-recognised event, but Lyles’ win is a boost to his preparations for this year’s World Championships, where he will defend his 200m crown. The championships are scheduled to take place in Budapest, Hungary from Aug. 19-27.
African Record Broken
Kenyan sprinter Ferdinand Omanyala finished third in the 150m, clocking a time of 14.89 seconds. This broke Namibian Frankie Fredericks’s mark of 14.99 and set a new African record. Omanyala also holds the African men’s lyles-wins-150m-at-atlanta-city-games/” title=”Lyles triumphs in 150m at Atlanta City Games.”>100m record.
