Atlanta Medical Facility Shooting Suspect Arrested
A suspect in the deadly Atlanta medical facility shooting on Wednesday has been arrested, according to county police officers.
“Investigators were able to obtain surveillance footage of the suspect and ultimately were able to identify the suspect as 24-year-old Deion Patterson,” a statement from the Atlanta Police Department read.

Police reported Patterson was detained in Cobb County in a condominium complex near Truist Park at around 7:45 p.m. Police released a series of photographs of the suspect earlier Wednesday in a tweet.
Details of the Shooting
- The gunman opened fire in the waiting room of Northside Hospital in Midtown around 12:40 p.m.
- The shooter was accompanied by his mother to the medical facility, who was not injured, police said.
- Five women were shot, one being a 39-year-old who was pronounced dead at the scene.
- The other four women, ages 71, 56, 39, and 25, were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital. At least three of them were severely injured.
Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-GA) spoke on the floor of the Senate shortly after the shooting.
“That’s what makes this particular shooting ironic and deeply upsetting because it underscores the fact that none of us is safe no matter where we are. This happened in a medical facility where people are trying to find healing,” he said.
Northside Hospital announced in a tweet that it will be closed on Thursday and instructed patients to reschedule their appointments.
“During the initial investigation, investigators learned a vehicle was carjacked from 14th Street and Williams Street, not long after the shooting,” the police statement read. “We believe the suspect likely carjacked that vehicle and left the Midtown area, not long after the shooting. The vehicle has since been located by our law enforcement partners in Cobb County.”
The APD hosted a press conference at 8:15 p.m.
Democratic Mayor Andre Dickens called for stricter gun control laws at the conference with the APD and Cobb County police, arguing that America has an epidemic of gun violence.
“Before today, we were down 26% in violent crimes across our city, and those are not just stats — those are real people, real people who are not going to be victims of violence,” Dickens said. “But we know there is more that needs to be done.”
