Failed smear campaign against GOP’s Matt Gaetz backfires.
Attempted Hit Piece on Republican Matt Gaetz Severely Backfires
Republican Representative Matt Gaetz of Florida is reveling in a recent story that was intended to tarnish his reputation but instead ended up portraying him in a positive light.
Gaetz faced backlash from both sides of the political spectrum after successfully orchestrating the removal of House Speaker Kevin McCarthy earlier this month.
Despite nearly two weeks passing, the Republicans have yet to find a replacement.
On Tuesday, a vote for Rep. Jim Jordan fell short by 17 votes, with 20 Republicans voting against him.

In a piece published on Tuesday, political reporter Emily Mahoney from the Tampa Bay Times highlighted the animosity towards Gaetz from members of both parties due to the recent events.
Rep. John Rutherford (R- FL) said he still supported Rep. McCarthy (R-CA) for the speakership, saying he had 96% of the conference’s support: “I’m a no on allowing Matt Gaetz and the other seven to win by putting their individual in as speaker.” pic.twitter.com/lDySGPzvoZ

Gaetz also faced opposition from fellow Florida Republican Representative John Rutherford, who voted against Jordan’s speakership and expressed his disapproval of Gaetz’s influence.
Mahoney’s article highlighted Gaetz’s political skills and the respect he earned from some Democrats during his time as a state House representative in Florida.
According to the Tampa Bay Times, Gaetz seemed to appreciate those who engaged in fierce debates with him, even if they were from the opposing party.
Gaetz confirmed this in a social media post, acknowledging the respect he had for those who challenged him and stating that vigorous debate ultimately leads to better policies.
Tampa Bay Times wanted to write a piece where people who served with me in state government could say bad things about me.
My favorite quote is how the Dem leader at the time was ‘frustrated’ that Democrats voted with me and respected me:
“Thurston said he grew frustrated by…

Gaetz also highlighted a quote from former Democratic House Minority Leader Perry Thurston, who acknowledged that Gaetz’s time in the Florida House prepared him for his current position.
The article aimed to gather negative comments about Gaetz, but he emerged from it looking quite favorable.
It seems that the saying “any press is good press” holds true in the case of the failed hit piece against Gaetz by the Tampa Bay Times.
A Note from Our Deputy Managing Editor:
What if you woke up one morning and half of the people you count on had just vanished overnight?
That happened to me recently. I got up, came to work here at The Western Journal, and when I got to my office, literally half of our readers had vanished. They were just gone. We had been nuked by Facebook, and it had happened almost instantly.
But it was even worse. Facebook hit us at the same time 90 percent of advertisers had essentially boycotted us. “Brutal” is a word I’ve used a lot lately.
The fight for the truth is brutal. The fight for America’s soul is brutal. What the government is doing to Jan. 6 detainees is brutal. What surgeons are doing to confused children is brutal.
It’s a fight we must win. But we can’t win without you.
A subscription to The Western Journal will go much farther than you think. It costs less than a cup of Starbucks coffee, and for that small price you get access to ALL of our content — news, commentary, and premium articles — you’ll experience a radically reduced number of ads, and most importantly you will be vitally supporting the fight against leftism.
Can I count on you to subscribe today? We need your help. Benjamin Franklin summed up the situation we’re all facing when he said, “We must all hang together, or, most assuredly, we shall all hang separately.”
We plan to hang in and fight. Please help us. Please subscribe today.

How did the recent story intended to damage Matt Gaetz’s reputation end up presenting him in a positive light?
Revious night’s rain had disappeared? That’s the scenario that played out for Republican Representative Matt Gaetz when a recent story intended to damage his reputation ended up presenting him in a positive light. Gaetz, who has faced backlash from both ends of the political spectrum, found himself in the spotlight after successfully orchestrating the removal of House Speaker Kevin McCarthy earlier this month. However, the Republicans have yet to find a replacement for McCarthy, leaving the party in a state of uncertainty.
On Tuesday, a vote for Rep. Jim Jordan fell short by 17 votes, with 20 Republicans defecting against him. This development highlighted the ongoing animosity towards Gaetz from members of both parties due to the recent events. In fact, a piece published by political reporter Emily Mahoney of the Tampa Bay Times focused on this animosity and the opposition Gaetz faced from fellow Florida Republican Representative John Rutherford, who voted against Jordan’s speakership and expressed disapproval of Gaetz’s influence.
However, Mahoney’s article ironically ended up shedding a positive light on Gaetz. She highlighted his political skills and the respect he earned from some Democrats during his time as a state House representative in Florida. It was mentioned that Gaetz appreciated engaging in fierce debates with individuals from the opposing party. Gaetz himself confirmed this on social media, acknowledging his respect for those who challenged him and stating that vigorous debate ultimately leads to better policies.
Furthermore, the article tried to gather negative comments about Gaetz but inadvertently presented him favorably. Gaetz seized this opportunity to showcase a quote from former Democratic House Minority Leader Perry Thurston, who acknowledged that Gaetz’s time in the Florida House prepared him for his current position. It seems that even though the intention was to tarnish his image, Gaetz emerged from the hit piece unscathed.
In the end, this failed hit piece serves as a reminder of the phrase, “any press is good press.” Despite the initial intentions of the Tampa Bay Times, their article ended up portraying Gaetz in a positive light. As Gaetz continues to navigate the political landscape, it is clear that his skills and ability to garner respect from both sides of the aisle are assets that will continue to serve him well.
