Backpacks filled with ammo and homemade explosives found at the Southern border, authorities reveal.
Explosive Discovery Along the Rio Grande Valley Border
In a startling development, U.S. Border Patrol authorities recently made a chilling discovery along the Rio Grande Valley sector. Backpacks containing ammunition and a homemade explosive were found, highlighting the ongoing control exerted by Mexican cartels in the region.
Chief Patrol Agent Gloria I. Chavez, who oversees enforcement operations along 264 border miles between West Texas and southern New Mexico, expressed her concern about the incident. She emphasized the dangerous tactics employed by criminals against border agents.
The McAllen Police Department played a crucial role in averting a potential disaster. They assisted in safely detonating the homemade explosive device after it was discovered by border patrol agents patrolling around Fronton, Texas.

This is not the first time explosive devices have been intercepted by border patrol agents. In a separate incident, authorities in Arizona intercepted an Improvised Explosive Device at a port of entry in Douglas. The Department of Homeland Security has warned that these devices can range from small pipe bombs to sophisticated devices capable of causing significant damage and loss of life.
During a congressional hearing, U.S. Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz admitted that Mexican cartels have been smuggling drugs and immigrants along the Southwest border, indicating a loss of operational control. Lawmakers were also informed about the discovery of another “explosive device” near the region.
While the border chief could not openly discuss the details, he later clarified on social media that the found object was a duct-taped ball filled with sand, which posed no threat to agents or the public.
Today, I testified before the Committee on Homeland Security & it was alleged that Agents found an explosive device near the border. During a Jan. briefing, leadership was notified that Agents found a duct-taped ball filled with sand that wasn’t deemed a threat to agents/public. pic.twitter.com/SXV9qK8uo1
