Authorities are probing potential links between a suspected Gilgo Beach serial killer and the disappearance of a woman from South Carolina.
Investigation Underway into Possible Connection Between Suspected Gilgo Beach Serial Killer and 2017 Disappearance
Authorities in South Carolina are currently looking into whether the suspected Gilgo Beach serial killer may be linked to the disappearance of a woman in 2017. The 59-year-old suspect, who remains unnamed, was recently arrested for the murder of three women whose bodies were discovered on Gilgo Beach in Long Island, New York, in 2010.
The woman in question, Julia Ann Bean, was last seen alive on May 31, 2017. However, her daughter did not report her missing until November 18 of that same year. Despite the case remaining unsolved, a woman claiming to be Bean’s friend recently came forward with “third hand” information after the arrest of the Gilgo Beach suspect. This new information has been shared with the FBI as South Carolina law enforcement continues to investigate Bean’s disappearance.
Bean’s daughter, Cameron, also informed investigators that she recalls seeing her mother with someone who could potentially be the Gilgo Beach suspect. However, there is currently no confirmed evidence to either confirm or deny a connection between Bean and the serial killer.
Possible Link to South Carolina
The Gilgo Beach suspect owned four vacant lots in Chester County, South Carolina, which is located just 90 minutes away from Sumter County. This proximity has raised suspicions and further intensified the investigation.
Theory of Murders Committed in the Suspect’s Home
According to a source involved in the investigation, police are operating on the theory that the suspect may have committed the murders in his own home. This theory is based on the fact that the suspect’s family was out of town during the time of the killings, suggesting that he may have lured the victims to his residence. This would have allowed him to control the environment while having easy access to materials found with the victims at Gilgo Beach, such as tape and burlap bags.
Four bodies were discovered within a few days of each other, including Melissa Barthelemy, Maureen Brainard-Barnes, Megan Waterman, and Amber Costello. While the suspect has not yet been charged for Brainard-Barnes’ death, he is considered the prime suspect. If convicted, he could face multiple life sentences without parole.
