Battleground state GOP leader grapples with abortion ahead of 2024 elections
North Carolina GOP House Speaker Tim Moore acknowledged his battleground state. “going to have to deal with what we do on abortion” After the issue, the outcome was overwhelmingly against Republicans in the midterm election.
“We’re going to do something to protect the unborn, but we need to make sure that we do it in such a way that it is consistent with the views of most North Carolinians,” Moore spoke to the Washington Examiner Interview Friday

Moore’s comments highlight the difficulty of how to approach abortion during the next election cycle, especially in a closely monitored swing state.
The highest court of North Carolina ruled in January that privacy can be extended to the right to abortion. This overturned a state law banning abortions after six weeks.
The state prohibits abortions after 20-weeks of pregnancy. However, there are some exceptions for emergency medical situations.
The Supreme Court Dobbs V. Jackson Women’s Health Organization The decision to end federal protections of abortion in summer last year threw off the 2022 election. Democrats used the ruling to mobilize turnout. It will remain a partisan wedge as the 2024 elections approach. After Democrats delivered better-than-expected results last year, Republican leaders called upon the party not to back down.

“We can’t afford to say, ‘We’re not going to talk about this issue.’ We have to become conversant,” Ronna McDaniel was the RNC Chairwoman earlier this year. “The Democrats are going to continue to use this issue.”
North Carolina Republicans witnessed a wave victory in the 2022 midterm election that defied the GOP’s overall disappointing results. The future direction of the battleground state will depend on how the restrictions are changed.
Kamala Harris, Vice President of the United States, made this claim during a trip to Iowa.

“If politicians start using the court to undo doctors’ decisions, imagine where that can lead,” Harris spoke at Grand View University on Wednesday.
Gov. Roy Cooper (D.NC), was one of many Democratic governors this Week to ask major pharmacies to clarify how they plan to distribute abortion medication amid concerns about a possible crackdown.
