The New York Police Department has arrested a 27-year-old man named Nicolas Malvagna in connection with the incident. He has been charged with assault, harassment, aggravated harassment, and attempted assault, as reported by Rolling Stone.
According to Variety, the attacker claimed he threw the phone as a joke, thinking it would be funny to hit the singer.
Despite the incident, Bebe is still scheduled to perform at the Fillmore in Philadelphia on June 20 as part of her “Best F’n Night of My Life Tour,” which concludes in the United States on July 1 with two nights in Los Angeles.
In a similar incident, singer Harry Styles was hit in the eye with Skittles candy during a performance in November 2022. The incident prompted Skittles to take out a full-page ad urging fans not to throw candy at performers.
