Beijing Should Stop Supplying Weapons to Russia and Lift Australian Trade Bans: Foreign Minister
Penny Wong, the Australian Foreign Minister, met her Chinese counterpart. She urged the Chinese regime to lift trade barriers and to cease supplying arms to Russia.
Wong met Qin Gang, Foreign Minister, on the sidelines at the G20 summit in New Delhi after her December visit to Beijing.
She said, “I was grateful to the opportunity to engage in important matters, including trade and human rights, consular matters as well as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.” Submitted Reporters in the Indian capital.
She supported Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the Ukrainian President, in his call for China to stop supplying weapons to Russia and do the right thing.
Wong stated that Russia is responsible for the events in Ukraine and their subsequent effects on global energy, food insecurity, and the devastation and suffering of the Ukrainian people.
“I have previously stated that the world looks to China for responsible leadership in Ukraine, especially given its close relationship to Russia.
Wong didn’t give any further information on her trade talks with Qin, despite it being a high-profile topic. However, she said that it was consistent with previous statements.
She stated that she had expressed the opinion that it would be in both nations’ best interests to remove these trade barriers.
“And although I won’t go into the details of chapter and verse, I think you can assume that what I said at the meeting was consistent in my public statements.”
Beijing placed trade bans on approximately $20 billion worth of goods including wine, lobster and barley in retaliation for the Morrison government’s request for an independent investigation into COVID-19’s origins.
Malcolm Turnbull, former Prime Minister of Australia, stated that Beijing will lift the bans after their trade coercion campaign failed in its goal to force Australia to “knuckle under”
“I would expect trade sanctions to be lifted,” he said. He said they have not worked. . It cost the wine industry and made no difference in barley. But it really did not make any difference to coal. The prices of coal are at an all time high.
“The overall impact of trade sanctions was very limited. It was counterproductive and failed.”
The Chinese regime leaked a document listing 14 grievances that Australia needed to address before they could restore relations. This included the repeal of foreign interference laws and the 5G ban against Huawei.
Australian Government calls for engagement despite difficult past
Wong claims that Canberra and Beijing can both “grow their bilateral relationship while protecting our national interests,” if they both manage their differences well.
After the February downing of the spy satellite, she stated that, despite concerns over international laws being broken, the Australian government would continue engagement with the Chinese Communist Party.
She stated, “We came to government with a very clear vision about the importance to stabilize the relationship with China. We’ve taken many steps in order to do that.” February 6,
“We will cooperate when we can, and we will disagree where necessary, but we’ll keep engaging in our national interests.”
The minister also called on the United States to follow suit, believing that it was important that conflict does not escalate into competition.
“We share U.S. concerns over the infringement and violation of international laws, but we encourage continued dialogue, because the world wants peace, stability, and prosperity. She said that the great powers must continue to engage.
Don Farrell, Trade Minister, said that he received an invitation from his Chinese counterpart. This indicated that bilateral relations were improving.
“One of the things” [Wang Wentao] At that meeting, he stated that the freeze was over and that we are moving towards a warm spring. He interpreted that as a positive sign. Submitted The ABC.
“When I visit China, I want to make sure we do as much work as possible to make it a successful trip and to maintain a good working relationship.”
This is despite CCP’s extensive list of human rights violations and continued violations international norms.
While the Australian government continues to advocate for universal human right with the regime, Beijing has not shown any indication or attempted to address these issues. Beijing told Australia not to interfere with their “internal affairs”.
Talks also held between the US and Russia
The G20 summit was held on the sidelines. Russia and the United States had their most intense face-to-face discussions since the Ukraine invasion.
Although U.S. Secretary-of-State Antony Blinken met briefly with Sergey Lavrov the Russian Foreign Minister, there was no sign of a decrease in tensions.
This exchange took place amid rising tensions around Russia’s nuclear threats.
“[Russian] Putin has shown no interest in engaging and said that there is nothing to talk about until Ukraine accepts, I quote, “the new territorial reality” during a press conference.
Blinken stated that despite the inability to reach consensus on Ukraine’s issue, it was a positive sign that 18 out of 20 countries had reached an agreement on a statement calling to end the war.
Lavrov, for his part, stated that Russia would continue its military operation in Ukraine and accused the United States “blackmail.” He also mocked the U.S. rejection of a “peace plan” made by China, which blamed Russia for the invasion.
