Dr. Ben Carson argued Vice President Kamala Harris “doesn’t really know” what her own policies are for her presidential aspirations, as she “needs to be told” what her policies are.
Carson, who previously worked as secretary of Housing and Urban Development during the Trump administration, previewed the upcoming presidential debate scheduled for Tuesday, which he predicted would be very consequential to this election cycle. Ahead of the debate, Carson predicted that Harris is preparing for Tuesday night by figuring how she can get “under Donald Trump’s skin.”
“Also, she needs to be told what her policies are, because she doesn’t really know what they are; nobody else does either,” Carson said on Fox News’s Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo, guest-hosted by Jason Chaffetz. “Donald Trump doesn’t have to prep, because the truth is always the truth. You don’t have to try to figure out what things will resonate with people, you just say who you are. He’s very transparent. And I think the people will appreciate that.”
Since becoming the Democratic Party’s 2024 presidential nominee, Harris has changed her views on multiple policies facing the United States, such as no longer wanting to ban fracking and expressing a desire to secure the nation’s southern border. In her first interview as a presidential candidate, Harris clarified that her values “have not changed.”
Carson referenced Harris’s comment when addressing her sudden change in various policies, questioning if she has changed her views at all. He added that “you have to wonder” if she still holds the values where the government can mandate the type of cars people can drive, or whether or not one can have a gas stove in their house.
“So what you’re going to see in the debate is Donald Trump running on his past policies, and Kamala Harris running away from her past policies,” Carson said. “So, it should make for a very, very interesting evening.”
The next debate will be hosted by ABC News, which will utilize the same muted-microphone approach that CNN used for its debate. Harris informed the network last week that she agreed to the network’s proposed rules.
Trump campaign senior adviser Jason Miller told the Washington Examiner the campaign is “thrilled” Harris and her team have agreed to the rules, as voters “want to hear” from both candidates what their vision is for the nation’s future.
The debate will be moderated by David Muir and Linsey Davis, and will last 90 minutes long with two commercial breaks. The event will air at 9 p.m. ET.
