Ben Shapiro foresees leftist governments in Latin America crashing against the “rocks of reality.
Daily Wire Editor Emeritus Ben Shapiro: Leftist Governments in Latin America Will Crash into the “Rocks of Reality”
In the latest episode of his YouTube show “Facts,” Daily Wire Editor Emeritus Ben Shapiro discussed how leftist governments in Latin America are heading towards a crash as their socialist policies wreak havoc on their countries.
Shapiro highlighted the election of Right-leaning libertarian Javier Milei in Argentina as a positive sign that the leftist governments, which rose to power during the so-called Pink Waves, are faltering.
“That Pink Wave isn’t an iron wall, as it was with Soviet-occupied Eastern Europe – it is popularly elected Leftist governments in South and Latin America that have increasingly pursued not only economic redistributionism and nationalism of industry, but outright tyranny and anti-Americanism,” Shapiro explained.
Shapiro also criticized the American press for focusing on the danger of authoritarianism abroad while ignoring the threat of socialism, which has gained a foothold in many Latin American countries.
Throughout the episode, Shapiro delved into the history of the first and second Pink Wave in Latin America, which was propelled by the Sao Paolo Forum. This conference of leftist parties in the region was established in the 1990s to rebrand socialism and communism after the collapse of the Soviet Union.
The first Pink Wave occurred after the Cold War, with leaders like Hugo Chavez in Venezuela and Lula da Silva in Brazil coming to power in 2003. However, this wave faltered after the Great Recession in 2008. Nevertheless, leftist parties regained power in countries like Argentina, Bolivia, Peru, Honduras, and Chile after 2018.

Shapiro emphasized that the consequences of leftist rule in these countries have been disastrous. Venezuela and Argentina have faced rampant inflation, while corruption continues to plague countries like Mexico and Bolivia.
“The pink tide that has risen, receded, and risen again will ultimately crash against the rocks of reality as it has in the past. Corruption and lack of rule of law create the preconditions for dissatisfaction with any government, but Left-wing governments in Latin and South America have channeled that dissatisfaction into anti-democratic centralization of power and impoverishment of their own citizenry,” Shapiro concluded. He expressed hope that Milei’s election marks the beginning of a shift away from Left-wing politics in the region.

How have the socialist policies implemented by leftist governments in Latin America led to economic instability and a decrease in individual freedoms?
He socialist policies implemented by these governments, arguing that they have led to economic instability and a decrease in individual freedoms. He cited Venezuela as a prime example of the failure of socialism, noting the country’s economic collapse and the widespread poverty and lack of basic necessities experienced by its citizens.
According to Shapiro, the leftist governments in Latin America have failed to understand the fundamental principles of economics and the importance of individual freedom. He argued that their policies, which prioritize government control and redistribution of wealth, have resulted in stagnant economies, decreased foreign investment, and a lack of innovation and entrepreneurship.
Moreover, Shapiro highlighted the rise of authoritarianism and anti-American sentiment in these countries. He criticized the governments’ tendency to silence dissent and suppress political opposition, arguing that this undermines democracy and human rights. He also noted their anti-American rhetoric, which he claimed is merely a diversion tactic to distract from their own failures.
However, Shapiro expressed optimism about the future of Latin America, pointing to the election of right-leaning politicians like Javier Milei in Argentina. He believes that the rejection of leftist policies and the embrace of free-market principles by these politicians is a positive indication that the region is moving towards economic prosperity and individual liberty.
In conclusion, Ben Shapiro argues that leftist governments in Latin America are on a collision course with reality. Their socialist policies have led to economic instability, decreased freedoms, and a rise in authoritarianism. However, with the emergence of right-leaning politicians who advocate for free-market principles, there is hope for a brighter future in the region.
