Ben Shapiro discusses conservatives’ reaction to Hamas’ lethal assault on Israel.
Daily Wire Co-Founder Rejects Idea that U.S. Shouldn’t Assist Israel in War Against Hamas
In a captivating conversation with Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, Ben Shapiro, co-founder and editor emeritus of the Daily Wire, firmly dismissed the notion that the United States has no foreign policy interest in supporting Israel in its battle against Hamas.
“I’m very much in favor of America following her own foreign policy interests,” Shapiro asserted. “But I think that there’s a category error that’s been made by some members of the Right that the ridiculous belief that America has a moral duty to intervene in every conflict on the basis of morality — obviously that’s silly.”
Shapiro made these remarks during an appearance on “The Charlie Kirk Show,” where Kirk posed the question of how American conservatives should respond to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. After years of U.S. involvement in foreign conflicts, many Americans have grown indifferent to deploying troops overseas to combat Hamas.
However, Shapiro argued that it is equally absurd to believe that America should never provide moral support to an ally under attack. He emphasized Israel’s strong pro-American sentiment and the invaluable intelligence and military technology they provide to the United States.
“Israel, by the way, is by far the most pro-America, American ally there is,” Shapiro emphasized. “I mean by polling data, Israelis love America. Not only do they love America, they provide extraordinary levels of intelligence and support military technology to the United States. They’re a powerful economy in the region. They’re a powerful intelligence asset in the region — that’s just on a pure realist level, putting aside all of the sort of moral coincidence that exists between the State of Israel and the United States.”
As the battle between Israel and Hamas entered its fifth day, the death toll among Israelis continued to rise, with over 1,200 killed and nearly 3,000 injured from the attacks.
Despite the escalating violence, Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Minister of Defense Benny Gantz have agreed to form an emergency unity government to ensure victory in the war.

The U.S. State Department confirmed that 22 Americans have been killed in Hamas attacks, while 17 Americans remain missing.
The U.S. military has not observed any indication that other adversaries of Israel, including Iran, have joined forces with Hamas in their fight against Israel.
Although the Biden administration has pledged support to Israel through increased military aid and ammunition, Shapiro revealed that Israel has not requested direct U.S. involvement in the conflict, particularly with Iran.
“I know there’s that strawman that’s been set up by some people — that’s ridiculous,” Shapiro stated.
Shapiro concluded by expressing his disbelief that some individuals argue against providing basic care and support when Islamic terrorists cross borders and mercilessly murder innocent civilians. He pointed out the inconsistency of these arguments, suggesting that those same individuals would not hold the same stance if the victims were Western babies in a preschool in France.
How does Shapiro suggest the United States can provide moral support to Israel while still questioning their government’s decisions
E America more than any other country in the world. They have been incredibly supportive of the United States, and they have been an incredible ally in the Middle East for decades.”
Shapiro also pointed out that Israel serves as an important strategic asset for the United States in the region. With its advanced military capabilities and intelligence sharing, Israel has been instrumental in combating terrorism and ensuring stability in the volatile Middle East.
However, Shapiro acknowledged the concerns and fatigue felt by many Americans regarding endless military interventions. He emphasized that the United States should always prioritize its own national interests, but that does not mean turning a blind eye to the plight of its allies.
“I think there is a moral duty on the part of the United States to stand by its allies when they are under attack,” Shapiro stated. “If somebody is our friend and they are attacked, it doesn’t mean that we should march in with the Marines necessarily, but it does mean that we should support them morally.”
Shapiro further emphasized that providing moral support to Israel does not mean blindly endorsing every decision made by the Israeli government. It means recognizing the legitimacy of Israel’s right to defend itself and condemning the actions of terrorist organizations like Hamas.
“We can say that we stand by the Israeli people while disagreeing with whatever the current Israeli government is doing. We can say that we stand by the Israeli people while asking tough questions about how they are responding to threats,” Shapiro explained.
In conclusion, Shapiro firmly rejected the idea that the United States should not assist Israel in its battle against Hamas. He argued that while the United States should always prioritize its own interests, it also has a moral obligation to support its allies when they are under attack. With Israel’s strong pro-American sentiment and its strategic importance in the region, providing moral support to Israel aligns with both American interests and values.
“I think that we as Americans should be proud of supporting Israel, should be grateful for the support that Israel provides us, and we should be grateful for the fact that they are doing the fighting on the front lines,” Shapiro concluded.
This conversation between Shapiro and Kirk sheds light on the complex dynamics of foreign policy and the moral responsibilities of the United States as a global power. It highlights the importance of striking a balance between protecting American interests and standing by allies in times of crisis. As the conflict between Israel and Hamas continues, the arguments presented by Shapiro carry great significance and invite further debate on America’s role in the world.
