Beshear, Shapiro, and Whitmer to rally troops at House Democrats’ retreat – Washington Examiner
House Democrats are set to hold a retreat from March 12-14 at the Lansdowne Resort in Leesburg, Virginia, aimed at revitalizing their party’s morale following recent electoral challenges. Key speakers will include democratic Governors Andy Beshear (KY), Josh Shapiro (PA), and Gretchen Whitmer (MI), who will share insights on governing in regions that supported President Trump in the 2024 elections. This retreat comes as the Democratic Party tries to regroup after significant losses and respond to Trump’s rapid political maneuvers. Additional speakers will cover campaign strategies and rapid response to the Trump administration. The schedule may adapt to accommodate pressing legislative work, especially related to federal funding deadlines.
Beshear, Shapiro, and Whitmer to rally troops at House Democrats’ retreat
House Democrats tapped Govs. Andy Beshear (D-KY), Josh Shapiro (D-PA), and Gretchen Whitmer (D-MI) to rally their troops at a retreat.
The Democratic Party has yet to regain its footing following its bruising electoral defeats in November, with President Donald Trump’s lightning pace leaving them struggling to respond. House Democrats are hoping to rally and boost morale with a March 12-14 “issues conference,” which will take place at the Lansdowne Resort in Leesburg, Virginia, Politico reported.
The letter from Democratic Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar said that the trio would share “their approaches to governing a state that President Trump carried in 2024.”
Beshear and Shapiro were floated at the top of the list of running mates during former Vice President Kamala Harris’s unsuccessful 2024 presidential run. Now, the three are viewed as major 2028 presidential contenders.
Other speakers include bipartisan pollsters John Anzalone and Sarah Longwell, a task force focused on rapid response and litigation against the Trump administration, and other campaign and messaging experts.

The schedule of the conference could change, however, as the federal funding deadline is March 14. The conference has been disrupted over scheduling conflicts before.
“We will accommodate any potential votes related to Fiscal Year 2025 Appropriations and plan to proceed with the conference,” Aguilar said in the letter, obtained by the outlet.
