Betsy McCaughey: Democrats Partner With Mexican Cartels: A Deal With the Devil
Mexican drug cartels are causing the death of our family and friends with fentanyl, which is produced in superlabs south-of-the border and smuggled into U.S. by President Joe Biden.
Biden claims he is visiting Mexico to seek the Mexican government’s assistance in stopping the carnage. The trip is nothing more than a ponies and dogs show. Photos-ops, empty promises, and such will be quickly followed by backsliding.
Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, Mexican President, is unable to fight the cartels. He has paramilitary force that outguns Mexican police and controls large areas of territory.
Biden, for his part, has no intention of securing the southern border — the only measure that actually would stop the flow of killer drugs into our towns and schools.
Biden wants illegal migrants to continue entering by the millions even though it is preventing Border Patrol agents from detecting drug smugglers. Border Patrol agents will be removed from drug interdiction and other law-enforcement duties to help migrants. This is what the Democrats are willing to do.
Democrats have given America to the cartels in order to increase the number of immigrants. Double winners for the cartels are those who profit from human trafficking as well as drug trafficking.
Who are the losers in this case? American families lose loved ones due to fentanyl addiction. Fentanyl-laced drug overdoses are responsible for the deaths of more than 70,000 Americans annually, including approximately 30,000 youth aged 15 to 34. Fentanyl invades our middle and high schools, sometimes killing young people who are trying the drug for the first-time.
It must be obvious to the Biden administration that Lopez Obrador is not qualified to fight the cartels. Lopez Obrador, who is leftist and took office in 2018, has pledged that he would end the war on drugs, but not prosecute him. His motto is “abrazos no balazos,” That is what it means “hugs not bullets.” His agenda does not include fighting the cartels.
Mexico has arrested Ovidio Guzman. He is the leader of the largest cartel and the son Joaquin’s kingpin. “El Chapo” Guzman. Derek Maltz, an ex-official of the Drug Enforcement Administration, suggested that the arrest was probably a symbolic gesture of goodwill due to Biden’s impending arrival.
Maltz, who was the head of DEA’s Special Operations, explains that Lopez Obrador has not lifted a finger in order to pursue the fentanyl superlabs and hand over many high-level cartel criminals indicted in the U.S. Maltz commented on Ovidio’s arrest and said that Ovidio was not being held responsible for his actions. “sustained attacks against the cartel leadership and the production labs, it’s not going to make a difference. Meanwhile we have 9,000 Americans dying every month.”
The U.S. Border Patrol must intercept the fentanyl being smuggled in order to stop deaths. It is usually smuggled in cars, trucks, or tunnels. Unfortunately, the Democratic Party does not prioritize catching these smugglers.
Biden signed an Omnibus Budget Bill two weeks ago that prohibits additional money from Customs and Border Protection to be used for technology and manpower to secure border. The budget states that the money must be used for charities that provide shelter and services to migrants and to purchase tickets for them to travel to their destination in the United States. Democrats want to turn Customs and Border Protection into an elite concierge travel service.
According to the Border Patrol Union, the Biden administration is asking for more money “to process more people so they can release more people.”
Since the beginning, that has been Biden’s goal. This is why Biden suspended the Remain in Mexico Policy and stopped construction of the border wall his first day in office. He is now fighting the Supreme Court to repeal Title 42 to allow more illegal immigrants to enter the country.
The Democratic Party uses cartels to achieve its goal of flooding the nation in migrants. The Democratic Party’s business partners are the cartels. But this is a deal with devil. These cartels also operate distribution hubs across the U.S. that bring in lethal drugs and criminals to buy them. It is time to fight back. It’s a joke to ask Mexico for assistance.
