His Only Son wins 2023 Torch Award for Film.
His Only Son Wins First-Ever Torch Award for Film
The recently released biblical film, His Only Son, has made history once again by winning the first-ever Torch Award for Film. The film depicts the biblical account of God asking Abraham to sacrifice his son Isaac and initially made history as the first-ever crowdfunded film when it hit theaters in March.
Impressive Box Office Showing
His Only Son shocked the box office, opening in the No. 3 spot and grossing $5.5 million while showing in less than 2,000 theaters across the country. Due to its impressive showing, the film raised enough revenue to pay back its 2,024 crowdfunding investors who helped provide the film’s theatrical marketing budget.
International Release
The film continues to be released in international markets, including South Korea, Brazil, and other locations across Latin America. Director David Helling said, “That’s exciting, just to know that this little film that was so humbly made on such a humble budget, that the Lord is just multiplying it out internationally, and that the Gospel impact will continue on for generations.”
Gratitude to Investors and Crew
Actress Sara Seyed, who played the role of Abraham’s wife, Sarah, expressed her gratitude to the crowdfunding investors in attendance at the event, saying, “Thank you for trusting us, watching the film, for being our support.” She also thanked producer Roman Medjanov and the filming crew, calling them a live audience that “laughed with us and cried with us.”
Future Projects
Director David Helling announced that he plans to create another film about the life of Jacob, drawing cheers and applause from those in attendance. “By God’s grace, I think we’re going to do another one,” he said. Angel Studios, the film’s distributor, is the same platform behind the award-winning multiseason show The Chosen.
Overall, His Only Son has made a significant impact in the film industry and continues to inspire audiences worldwide.
