Biden’s decision to let missile sanctions expire could grant Iran a significant win, warns national security expert.

The United Nations’ Embargo Against Iran’s⁢ Access to⁢ Missile⁣ and Drone Markets Expires, ⁤Giving‌ Iran Ally Hamas an Advantage Over Israel

The United Nations’ embargo against Iran’s access to missile and drone markets is set to expire on Wednesday, providing a ⁣major advantage to Iran ally Hamas over Israel. However, this advantage can still be halted by the United States and European allies, according to Richard Goldberg, a senior‍ advisor⁤ for the Foundation ⁢for Defense of Democracies.

“Loss of the sanctions will be ‘a huge victory for Tehran,’ according to Richard Goldberg.”

The current Biden administration’s inaction to continue the sanctions is seen as an ⁤unforgivable policy choice by Goldberg, who likens it to ⁢”appeasement.” He suggests that the United States can prevent the expiration of the sanctions by sending a letter ⁤to the United Nations Security Council and triggering snapback⁤ sanctions.

The sanctions are a result of ‍Resolution 2231 of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action passed in 2015⁤ by the UN Security Council, which limits⁤ Iranian nuclear efforts. The resolution calls upon Iran not to undertake any activity related to ballistic missiles capable of delivering nuclear weapons until⁣ the designated expiration date, known ⁣as “Transition Day.”

Despite Hamas killing 1,400 people in Israel, including Americans, ‍the Biden administration has failed to prevent ⁤the sanctions from expiring. State Department spokesman Vedant Patel stated that the administration will continue to hold⁣ the Iranian regime accountable through its own sanction ⁢authorities.

Goldberg sees the inaction as a form of support for Hamas and criticizes the president for lifting the embargo. ⁣Iran expert Behnam Ben Taleblu also expresses concern ⁤over the lapse of UN missile prohibitions, stating ‌that Iran’s missile proliferation radius is expanding and may include Russia.

Furthermore, the expiration of the sanctions opens up the market for Iranian drones, with 22 to 50 countries potentially becoming customers. Taleblu‌ predicts that Iran will take advantage of the suspension of sanctions to‌ provide drones for the Russian war effort in ‍Ukraine.

The post Biden About to Hand Iran ‘Huge Victory’ by Letting Missile Sanctions Expire, National Security Veteran Says appeared first on The Western Journal.

Why is gaining UN approval for snapback sanctions crucial to maintaining restrictions ‍on Iran’s missile and‍ drone capabilities, and what role does the United States and its allies play in achieving this

Naction by the Biden ‌administration as‍ a ⁤missed opportunity to⁣ prevent Iran from further advancing its missile and drone‍ capabilities. He highlights the danger of Hamas, a known terrorist organization, gaining access to these⁢ advanced weapons, which will undoubtedly pose a significant ⁢threat to⁤ Israel’s security.

The expiration of the sanctions will ⁢allow Iran to freely ⁢export ⁣its missile and drone technology to Hamas, ultimately enabling the group‍ to carry out more devastating attacks against Israel. This is particularly concerning given Hamas’ history of using ⁢such weaponry ‌to target innocent civilians, including Americans.

Goldberg stresses that the United‌ States and ⁢its European allies have⁤ the power ‌to‍ prevent this advantage from being granted to Iran and Hamas. By triggering snapback sanctions through the United Nations Security ‍Council, they can maintain ‌the restrictions on Iran’s access to these markets⁣ and curtail the⁣ threat posed by Hamas.

The current policy of the Biden administration, which fails to⁤ take decisive action against the expiration⁢ of the sanctions, is regarded by Goldberg as a dangerous form of appeasement. It not only places Israel’s security at risk but also undermines the ⁢joint efforts⁣ of the international community to ⁢prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.

Gaining UN approval ⁤for snapback ⁤sanctions is crucial ‍in this regard, as it would ensure the continuation of restrictions on Iran’s missile and drone capabilities. However, achieving this⁣ requires swift action by the United States and its allies to send a letter to the UN Security Council.

Resolution 2231, ⁣which forms the‍ basis for⁣ the current sanctions regime, was enacted in response to Iran’s nuclear activities. It aims to prevent Iran from developing⁣ ballistic‌ missiles capable of delivering nuclear weapons. The expiration date, known as “Transition ⁢Day,” marks the point at which Iran can engage in⁤ activities related to ballistic missiles without being subject to⁤ sanctions.

Despite the⁣ mounting evidence⁢ of Hamas’ nefarious activities ⁢and its⁣ deep ties to Iran, the Biden administration has failed to prevent the sanctions from expiring. While it ⁤claims to⁣ hold the Iranian regime accountable‌ through its own⁣ sanction authorities, this ⁣approach falls short in effectively addressing the immediate threat‍ posed by Hamas.

In conclusion, the expiration of the United Nations’ embargo on Iran’s access to missile and drone markets is a significant concern. It grants Iran ally Hamas a major advantage⁤ over Israel, posing‍ a dangerous ‍threat to regional stability and security. The United States and its European allies have the power to prevent this advantage by triggering snapback sanctions through the UN ⁢Security ⁤Council. This action is essential ⁣to curtail the ⁣reach of Hamas ⁢and⁣ ensure ⁢the ongoing safety of Israel and its allies. The inaction⁤ of‍ the Biden administration on this matter is seen as a missed opportunity and a dangerous policy choice, reminiscent of⁣ appeasement. Swift action ⁢is needed to address this critical situation effectively.
