Biden Admin Approving 99% of Illegals Seeking Title 42 Exceptions
Since the expansion of the mobile app CBP One in January, the Biden administration’s app approved 99% of migrants seeking exceptions to the COVID-era Title 42 public health order that allows border officials to quickly expel migrants from the United States, a Customs and Border Protection spokesperson told Fox News Digital.
The app, which has received scrutiny from politicians on both sides of the aisle, was launched to encourage migrants to apply for entry into the country in a “safe and orderly” manner and discourage illegal immigration, according to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
“The CBP One app is an innovative solution we are using to facilitate the safe and orderly arrival of noncitizens who believe they meet certain vulnerability criteria and are requesting a humanitarian exception to the CDC’s Title 42 Order,” Mayorkas stated in January. “When Title 42 eventually lifts, this new feature will join one of the many tools and processes this Administration is providing for individuals to seek protection in a safe, orderly, and humane manner and to strengthen the security of our borders.”
The Biden administration expanded the mobile application to allow migrants to upload their information and schedule an appointment at a port of entry to request a Title 42 exception. The public health order is set to expire next month.
A CBP spokesperson told Fox News Digital that migrants have used the mobile app to send 75,000 applications that have been carried out or scheduled until April 25. The spokesperson noted that when appointment spots become available, they are filled within minutes.
Fewer than 1% of migrants who have completed their appointments have been rejected, the spokesperson claimed. Those who are approved are then released into the U.S. with a notice to appear and placed into the Title 8 removal process, which has a longer processing time than Title 42.
Republican Senator Josh Hawley slammed the CBP One app, calling it a “concierge service for illegal immigrants.”
In March, Hawley told Mayorkas, “My question is, you didn’t think the border crisis was bad enough that now we’re going to have an app that allows illegals to schedule their appointments and come and be admitted to this country?”
Democrats have also expressed dissatisfaction with the administration’s immigration app, particularly its technical glitches.
Democratic Senator Ed Markey urged the DHS to “shelve the CBP One app immediately.”
“This expanded use of the CBP One app raises troubling issues of inequitable access to — and impermissible limits on — asylum, and has been plagued by significant technical problems and privacy concerns,” Markey stated.
