Biden Admin: Forget About Ukrainian Aid Oversight, ‘It Is A War’
The Biden administration is planning to provide another round of aid to Ukraine amounting to $2.6 billion, but accountability for the distribution of the ammunition and supplies once it leaves American shores is off the table, according to John Kirby, Biden’s National Security Council’s Coordinator for Strategic Communications. Kirby emphasizes that the U.S. is Ukraine’s full-fledged partner for “however long it takes” due to the raging war. Therefore, Kirby argues that people should not expect accountability for all that Ukrainian aid. If some of the aid goes missing, Kirby essentially asks people to deal with it and accept the reality of an unwanted war the American people never voted to be a part of. “It is important to remember, and we all want as much oversight and accountability as possible… It’s taxpayer-funded equipment and systems that are going to Ukraine, but it is a war,” says Kirby.
Not all Americans are on the same page as Kirby, though. Some Republicans attempted to get Congressional approval for more oversight before providing aid, but they lost that battle. They were also accused of being a Putin puppet since they were cautious of Ukraine. The U.S. is providing Ukraine with billions upon billions of dollars, and the people are supposed to blindly trust that the Ukrainian leaders will use the aid wisely. However, the Eastern European country is notoriously corrupt, and if their leaders skim a little from the aid, Kirby justifies that it is part of the war.
Kirby’s remarks beg the question of what American leaders are gaining from this near occasion of World War III and how they are justifying potential corruption by saying, “Hey, this is a war.”
