The Biden administration has finally begun cracking down on the illegal immigration surge at the southern border. On Tuesday, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki unveiled a series of steps the Department of Homeland Security is taking to secure the border and assist migrants in seeking asylum.
Psaki mentioned one step to mitigate the border crisis would be the relocation of migrants from where they cross to other parts of the country. “Lateral flights, which is a newer step that we have started to take, which is moving migrants from one part of the border to another where there might be more processing capability or facility capacity to expel migrants under Title 42,” said Psaki.

This comes after the Biden administration faced criticism for previously implementing policies that encouraged the spread of the Delta variant on the border. Psaki also claimed the administration is moving to increase the speed by which unfit migrants are deported out of the U.S.
In the meantime, Republicans have demanded for Democrats to enforce even stricter immigration policies as the crisis at the southern border seems to get worse by the day.
