Biden Administration Released 72% of Illegal Migrants in San Diego Sector Despite Alleged Crackdown
Recent internal federal data indicates that 72% of migrants who unlawfully entered through the San Diego border sector have been released, contradicting the Biden administration’s claims of tightening border security. Despite over 6,800 migrant encounters since early June, more than 4,900 were released. A leaked Border Patrol guidance document shows that agents are advised to release migrants from nearly all countries except six specific nations, with deportation processes limited to certain adult migrants. This approach raises questions about the effectiveness and transparency of the administration’s border policies, especially as some countries are reluctant to repatriate migrants, complicating the U.S. deportation efforts.
The Biden administration has reportedly released 72% of migrants who entered the country unlawfully through the San Diego border sector despite the administration’s supposed crackdown on the border.
More than 4,900 migrants have been released out of the more than 6,800 migrants border authorities encountered in the Southern California border sector between June 5 and Tuesday, according to internal federal data reported by the New York Post.
The San Diego area is one of the busiest for illegal border crossings.
The internal federal data comes just days after a Border Patrol guidance document leaked showing agents in the San Diego area were advised to release migrants from all but six of the more than 100 countries in Africa, Asia, Australia, and Europe into the U.S. rather than deport them.
Only adult migrants from Georgia, Moldova, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan will be immediately sent to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for deportation, the memo said.
“It’s all smoke and mirrors,” Manny Bayon, the National Border Patrol Council President for the San Diego border sector, told the Post.
One issue is that some of these countries are reluctant to accept migrants back.
“We have to have cooperation with the countries where we’re sending them back,” Bayon said.
The leaked memo was reportedly distributed to border authorities in San Diego after President Joe Biden’s executive order ostensibly cracking down on the southern border.
Biden’s order announced last week will shut down the southern border when more than 2,500 migrants cross illegally every day for seven days in a row.
Once triggered, the order will remain in effect until two weeks after daily crossings drop to an average of 1,500 a day for seven days in a row, according to officials.

Biden declined to take questions about his executive order when announcing it, including from a reporter who asked him, “Why now?”
The president’s move comes as immigration continues to dog him in public opinion as the election cycle heats up.
Earlier this year, immigration surged to become the top issue on voters’ minds, bumping inflation down to second place, polls showed.
In the battleground states of Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, immigration ranks second in importance after only the economy, which typically dominates presidential elections, a recent poll showed.
Meanwhile, Biden has reversed many of former President Donald Trump’s border policies aimed at slowing the flow of illegal immigration at the U.S.-Mexico border, including the Remain in Mexico policy, which forced illegal migrants to stay on the Mexican side of the border while they awaited their asylum hearing.
